Every file I delete on my SD card returns on LOST.DIR. Why this is happening?

Recently I noticed that every time I deleted something from my sdcard, it wouldn't increase free space, it would only increase when i rebooted my phone. But now, when I reboot it, the files i deleted returns on LOST.DIR, then I have to delete directly from this folder (free space increases after reboot). I don't know why this is happening, I already bought a new sd (sandisk ultra 32gb) but it didnt solve anything. My files seem ok, it's just that every time i delete something, it appears on LOST.DIR (i checked folder size after deleting some files as test). My phone is a Redmi 5, on Miui 9.6.4.0 (NDAMIFD). Could someone give me a solution to this? Or at least some explanation of why this is happening... Thanks

What app are you using to delete those files the first time?

Usually I use ES File Pro, but sometimes I do delete from MX Player or QuickPic (if it's videos or images). Strangely, I just deleted three files, each one about 700mb (using ES), and it didn't came back on LOST.DIR (but had to reboot to free storage).

LOST.DIR is like the recycle bin in Windows - if a file isn't completely written, or if it isn't completely deleted, at the next restart you'll find it in LOST.DIR. Make sure you're not closing the app before the file is completely deleted. Also, if the SD card ever gives you a problem, it may be disconnecting (physically) - even for an instant - during a delete, causing the problem.

I always wait the process finish before closing the app.. but I didn't thought about a physical disconnection. I'll pay attention to that if files keeps appearing on LOST.DIR. I don't know if this is the cause, but thanks anyway.

Try a nice basic file manager app without tons of bells & whistles, like Total Commander -- just in case any of the extraneous stuff that the developer added is causing this behavior.

Well, I'm now using FX File Explorer, but it didn't change much... Today I even did a factory reset (if it was a bug, could be solved. But no, it still persists). I've copied some video files that I have on my SD (a few episodes) just so I could delete them as test, and the result was that some of them deleted properly, while others did not. Seems like if I delete a large number of files, it does "corrupt" and end on LOST.DIR too. Tbh I don't know what to do. Maybe it's "physically" disconneting... At least it's just when deleting, cause I can play every file that's on my SD. I'm not sure if that's the problem, but assuming it's disconnecting, what should I do?

Try B. Diddy's suggestion. Or try another SD Card.

It's also possible that there's some problem with how Xiaomi implemented SD card access in their firmware. Do you have a non-Xiaomi backup phone that you can test the same card and same process on?
