Android Central Question

hi,
i changed my phone 2 years ago and when i logged out of my old phone (to give to my kids), my contacts were lost and i had to re-enter them.

i got a new phone last week and i backed up my old phone before doing anything. i backed it up to google, when i logged out of my old phone, the same thing happened.
what am i doing wrong? can i get my old contacts back? how do i prevent it from happening in the future?
all help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you saving your contacts to your Google account when you enter them into the Contacts app? This is the easiest and most secure way to save your contacts, because they instantly get synced to your Google Contacts in the cloud. They can then be synced automatically to any device you log into with the same Google account. However, if you only save the contacts to the local Phone account, those don't sync anywhere automatically -- it's up to you to export those to a VCF file, which can then be imported to your Google Contacts.

I agree with b. Diddy , you want save contact with Google or similar cloud , doing it with sim or in the device you going have issues.
