I'm at E3 and I checked out the 3D. Anyone else here at E3 who got the chance to play with it? The 3D camera didn't impress me too much, but the overall performance is very snappy and smooth compared to my Evo 4G.

has anyone posted a pic of what the 3d pics look like? i'm very curious to see.

You can't show the 3D in a 2D pic. The way the screen works it would just be a polarized mess.

^ i see... so i'm assuming sharing them would be limited to sharing them with other evo 3d users, no? because to post a "3d" pic on say, for example facebook, would not really yield a "3d" look, right? that's kind of a catch 22.

The reason I would enjoy the 3D pics n vidz is u could put them on ur 3D HDTV n enjoy em. Lol but the whole 3D function on the phone is just a bonus to me. I like the phone BC of the hardware specs alone are by far gonna be the top dog for at least a few months lol. Soon enough we'll have phones that are faster than most people's PC's. :-P just my 2 ? --Drewski Out

correct. which is why I couldn't care less about 3D =P

I feel the 3d has a fun factor to take pictures with friends or family. Imagine impressing young children at family get togethers. Or taking pictures at work idk. I can see the apeal.

But the best thing about the phone, is it is still the fastest phone out there on sprint. So almost a nobrainer for most people.

the 3d portion will be worthless for most of the population. Other then showing a demo of "Hey look what my uber cool phone can do"

I'm sure it had some games on it in 3d since you were at E3. How did they play and were they any good?

I guess it's about as worthless as having the display in color.

(Everything is a "worthless" gimmick until it catches on and people start liking it. Then all of a sudden, it's a necessary feature.)

Which is exactly why sprint wanted them to add 3d. 3d Has been gaining popularity the past few years and will be a big factor for many people who see the phone. The only people who don't seem to care about 3d are the "tech savy" forum creepers and the htc haters. The average customer just thinks,"wow 3d....On a phone? I wantz 15 of em to show how cool I am."

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to play any games on it, though I don't remember seeing any games while I was going through the apps. I was mainly checking out the form factor, the qHD display, the 3D pics/videos, and the overall performance.

it's actually more dependent on the "will it make me queasy" factor. I love the fact the 3DS has an adjustable slider on it. It looks good to me on some things at minimal, and apparently for other games, max is best. But Pilotwings made me want to close my eyes at max.

Not really. . ..
I doubt it will ever be necessary by any means.
Yes its a cool feature, but sending 3D pics to people wont work unless they have a 3D compliant device of some sorts. posting 3D vids wont work for people unless they have 3D compliant equipment to view it.

So basically the 3D will be to show people how cool your phone is and much cooler than theirs because they dont have it. I doubt anyone here will be taking all of their pictures in videos in 3D.
Some games in 3D will be cool, but again it wont be the standard by any means.

I dont see 3D catching on and being an industry standard for anything really causing everyone to have 3D compliant devices in their household. It will be a "cool thing to have" though.

That's a perfectly valid concern. There are a lot of ways to do 3D wrong, and a lot more study needs to go into how objects can be placed in the 3D field to make sure they don't upset people. This part will get better with time :)

I think you may have missed my point. Color television/movies were never necessary either. Just a cool feature. If you bought a color TV, you just did it so you could say you had a better TV than everyone else. Same with having a touch screen on a phone. It was a silly worthless feature that was just a gimmick (that turned out to be very valuable). Then there was the HDTV revolution that was just a gimmick to get people to buy TVs again.

I'll admit that the 3D necessity was somewhat invented by manufacturers, but it's still the way display technology is going. TVs have nowhere else to go. We don't need higher resolution since our eyes can't even resolve the pixels at this distance anyway, and we don't need much bigger screens since they won't fit into our living rooms (and they're approaching projector screen sizes as it is). So 3D it is.

You can call it a gimmick if you want, and you can say it's pointless and worthless, but it is advancing technology, and that's fine by me. I'll be sitting here enjoying my 3D movies and video games, and you can do whatever makes you happy. We'll both go on living. I'll just be satisfied knowing that I'm playing with the beginnings of a technological leap in display technologies. :)

Clarification: The point is that it isn't necessary now, but it is the next advancement in display tech and will be important some day. People will look at you and say "Your TV isn't in 3D?!" Just like you would look at someone and say "Your TV isn't in color?!"
