So I bought the Aquarium Donation live wallpaper from Kittehface. I love it but...

I can't get it to display landscape.

When adjusting the settings, it actually goes landscape so you can work with the various options (which is when I noticed it looked much cooler in landscape). Once applied, it won't actually go landscape. The website for it says it supports portrait and landscape and I think that is probably true.

Think this is a HTC Sense issue?

Not that big of a deal at any rate but just curious.

yes, you are correct, as on now, sense is portrait only. If you want landscape i highly recommend Launcher Pro or ADW, as both can go into landscape. Also both take up less space then the sense launcher, so you'd get more real estate to watch your fishes in.

I used it on my EVO 4G, and really liked it (My experience is the Kittehface live wallpapers are usually pretty cool). But it never would go to landscape mode on the 4G, either. As you say, it was in landscape during setting options. I've run it on my 3D, but since I didn't know it was supposed to go to landscape mode, I didn't think there was a problem.

My suspicion is that the statement on the website may be mistaken, perhaps written for an early development version and left in accidentally when landscape didn't work out? Just a guess. In any case, I've never seen it run landscape mode during regular operation on either version of EVO.

Are you guys seeing lag when using live wallpaper. Ive tried some of the default ones and my launcher started lagging.

Most of the stock live wallpapers, especially the galaxy and the pond with leaves one don't seem to slow down the phone at all, it's the ones that are more demanding from the market that make it break a sweat a little bit.

I used to use that wallpaper on my OG Evo alot but I haven't tried it on the E3D yet. That said yes it doesn't go into landscape only portrait.

I have been using the basic stock nexus live wallpaper on the E3D since the day I got it and I notice it sometimes will cause a little lag (hitching) when spinning the carousel on the home screens sometimes. Not alot but it's there. If I use a regular non live wallaper there no hitching at all. So yes the live wallpapers use some cpu/gpu causing that lag. Imo if they would optimize the drivers a bit more this wouldn't/shouldn't be an issue since the phone has pkenty of power to handle live wallpapers with ease without any lag what so ever.

Edit: Well I just changed the wallpaper to a regular non live one just for kicks. I still have a slight hitch/lag at times while spinning the homescreens. I don't know if it's from having heavy loaded homescreens with all sorts of widgets shortcuts or something else running in the background. Although I killed all tasks first. It's only a slight hitch sometimes but still kinda bugs me.

I assumed with dual core this shouldnt be the case with any live wall paper. A bit disappointing. I don't recall if even my Epic 4g had any problems with live wall papers at all.

I assumed that as well.

Thing to remember, the Epic has a very fast CPU/GPU, and, Touchwiz doesn't take anywhere near as much power to run as Sense 3.0. Essentially what HTC did is make the new Sense just fancy enough to have comparable performance to the Evo 4G with it's slower CPU and less demanding version of Sense.

But yeah, it's those 3d transiton effects that cause the slowdowns. I did see a big step forward in performance on my Evo 4G going from Froyo to Gingerbread, hope to see the same jump, if not greater, when we eventually get ICS.

You know what the real problem with live wallpapers is?

The fact that they slow the Evo 3D down a bit. Especially the ones that come preloaded on the phone.

Apply a live wallpaper and then re-apply a regular live wallpaper and you tell me if you notice the difference.

I know I just hate doing the waiting game. Waiting for root is one thing but ICS is another. Gingerbread for Evo 4g didnt come out till 11 months later. Maybe 10 months but still a long time regardless.

I agree.

Thanks for the responses. So far, I like HTC Sense so will just live with portrait fishies.

I'm not man enough yet to root/rom to stock android at this point to get around it anyway.

As for lag, it does pop up if the phone is doing something else when this particular live wallpaper is up (aquarium). It also seems to drain the battery at an incredible rate.

After testing a few, the busiest live wallpaper that doesn't seem to cause lag is the 'twisted colors' one.

I definately love this damn EVO 3D
