Evo 3d or Samsung Galaxy S2

The Evo had outdated hardware? Even ENGADGET of all places made a comment that the EVO 4G has aged really well.

You can't compare the moment and the Hero. The Samsung Moment was so bad that other person on my shared line had to move from that to the Palm Pre which came out over a year before it.

I actually moved from the palm pre to the moment. I think the moment is better than the pre just because it is running android. BUT I still think it's a horrible phone and hope HTC makes a more solid phone. (Yes, I realize that comparing the moment and the evo 3d is a little ridiculous). If the evo3d doesn't tickle my fancy, then I'll hopefully return it after 30 days and get the GSII when it comes out. I'm hoping for the best with the Evo 3D though!

I dont like SAmoled screens (contrary to popular beliefs) the screens consume more juice. Samoled screens are too colorful, way too saturated, try turning the color up all the way on your tv and watching something. When you look at the screens close you notice lil black lines between the pixels (especially in the lighter colors).

Everyone says the SG2 is better but wont say why. Adreno 220 was proven to edge out of the SG2 GPU (Google it). The last minute change from 1ghz to 1.2 (to compete with evo 3d) might bring about some cpu issues. Samsung phones have that cheap feel, slow software support, and touch wiz. If you cant tell yet, Im going for the evo. Sprint,...... Sense,...... and HTC, is there anything better?

TBH, The GS2 seems like the better phone. And I say this being a devout Evo fan! The truth of the matter is that as of now, we have no idea what the Sprint version of the GS2 would look like or how it will perform compared to the Evo 4G. Remember that in the US, not all Galaxy S phones are equal. Last year, it was Epic 4G > Vibrant > Captivate > Fascinate. Add to the fact that Samsung was slow as hell rolling out OS updates and then all of them had an annoying GPS bug which I'm not even sure has been completely fixed.

The Evo 3D is out now and should hold anyone over for another year. The pros that the GS2 have over the Evo 3D are not enormous. Besides, I am confident that the Evo 3D will be a highly supported phone by both HTC and the dev community, as was its predecessor.

that's my point also, by the time anything/app/game's are released that'll take advantage of the hardware of both the SG2 or EVO3D it'll be time for an upgrade anyway. so you might as well pick the phone that's putting there hardware to good use now & that phone is definitely not the galaxy 2 example you have a dual core A9 cpu with a mali400 & all you have to use that power is an 8mp camera & a low resolution 800x450 screen? not to mention there wont be any game out within this year & the next that will use even two thirds the power that both phones have. so now you have to think *wow if im going to stick with a phone i might as well get one that is going to be reliable (gps is still problematic in the SG2) use's the gpu's potential with a higher resolution screen (qHD),(iphone 4 did well with a weaker gpu *sgx535*) plus not to mention the ability to record,photograph,playgames all in 3D if you want. even play the video's or movie's you have to an external source (hdtv) in 3D with 3d glasses for 3d television. you also have those dual camera's that the dev's are going to make apps & mod's for, maybe some sort of advanced HDR photography or recording's? the evo 3D has enough power & more potential to do more & as i said it's reliable. when i had the vibrant i hated the fact that no matter how many updates i recieved that said would fix the gps problem, none of them ever did the job...i basically had a phone with a useless gps,can you imagine how much that suck's? well all in all with the evo 3D you have a phone that is actually using it's resourced, imagine the evo 3D..but take away the dual camera's that are 5mp each for a total of 10mp per 3D shot & the same goes for the recording threw two 5mp camera's at once,then take away the qhd screen & put an 800x450 resolution screen, don't forget the dedicated aluminum camera button's & the 3D screen technology & then what do you have? its htc's version of a galaxy,some might say no because the gpu is more powerfull, well the specs are that a qHD screen use's 35% more gpu processing power than an 800x450 screen *wvga, so just add 30% more processing power & it's about as close to equal the mali400. so i wrote this for the people that needed a detailed evo3D vs SG2 as i did & after learning this i decided the evo3D is the way to go & when all those 3D apps come out you wont be missing out. trust me on that.

The SG2 is awfully attractive, and if Sprint had a release date and the final specs of the phone on their network by this time, I'd have given very serious consideration to giving the EVO 3D a bye, and going for the Samsung. But we don't have a release date (just a rumor of July 24 that I'm skeptical of, since the phone hasn't yet passed the FCC). And we don't know the final form the phone will take on Sprint, whether it will have 4G (I understand there's a fair chance it won't), and the possibility that Sprint will screw up the phone by putting a physical keyboard on it (unless I'm mistaken, that's what they did with the original Galaxy S last year). I don't see in 3-D, so I am physically incapable of using the 3D capabilities on the EVO.

But I went for the 3D to replace my EVO 4G, and unless something shocking about my new phone comes out, I'll be sticking with it.

People talk about the power/speed advantage of tje SGS2...it does seem snappier (I have both) but its fairly insignificant.
Samsung has already pushed 3 updates. They're games on.
It really comes down to multimedia....if your focused on camera/video performance Samsungs the way to go. They're not even close.

I have to disagree... The humming bird just flat out out performs the snapdragon in every way imaginable... Yes touchwiz is an issue, but as far as performance, its not close... My evo could never run a graphic intense wall paper like the nexus or epic without serious lag... With that being said htcs software for the most part is better.Software is what hampered the epic, but As I look at the gs2, it flat out trumps the e3d in pretty much everything. With that being said, Im still going to keep the evo, and see what the next 30 days bring. If no news is mentioned of the gs2,I will probably just s keep the evo, or possibly check out the photon.. For the most part htc builds their phones more solid,but samsungs hardware seems to perform better.

I do see htc still selling more devices, but I expect samsung to close the gap a bit. Both are good companys moving in a positive direction though.

You should re-read my post. I said that the snapdragon processors were BETTER. But when it comes down to real life performance, HTC wins hands down. I see nobody using old Samsung phones such as the moment, but I see many with the Hero. That shows that even if the phone is 2 years old it can still be used now, and with great performance with the right roms, overclocking, etc.

As an Evo owner. I will not be upgrading to the Evo 3d. I will be waiting to see when an if the GS2 releases on Sprint. As for the Sense vs Touchwiz debate, I like ADW launcherEX better than both.

That's the best part about being on Sprint. I am getting the 3d tomorrow, and if I am not satisfied after 30 days I can take it back which should be right around the launch of the Samsung within (sgs2) I win either way. Hahhahahha

funny im doing the same thing! you know that the dual camera gives the evo 3d an advantage when it comes to pictures & video over the SG2, the evo 3D will have parallax photo capture & what it basically does is take 2 high quality 5mp photo's then combines them to make a high quality 10mp photo, not just a picture with higher resolutions. also the evo 3D will take 180 degree photo's & to add to all this all while being HDR!you know how the picture will look with when taking pictures using a dual camera HDR parallax camera? i could be the best pictures that will be taken of any phone out or coming out for this generation. i like the sg2 & had the vibrant before getting the evo 3D, but when its time for me to decide if ill stick with the evo3D or the SG2...im thinking im going to stick with the evo, the 3D movies & picture taking is something that cant be done no matter how strong your processor is. hardware is needed for these things & the evo3d has it. also even though the SG2 is significantly more powerful in the cpu/gpu combo, we're at a point where we have enough power already & dont really need anymore unless we do more than just run social network apps & video chats, even the games we have & are making dont need more power than an sgx540! look at the sony ericsson phone,they're still using the adreno 205 & the games look crazy good. so we really dont need anything extra now.its like a 4ghz processor in a netbook,i say since its come down to the feature hardware's the sg2 has the superamoled plus. but i guess i'll have to hold it in my hands for a couple of minutes & see if ill trade & hopefully samsung already fixed that damned GPS problem, because the whole time & with all the upgrades for my vibrant they never fixed my gps & even the droid charge is having this problem (verizons 4G galaxy s version) if they still didnt fix it, then i definitely am sticking with the evo 3D.

look up parallax photo capture, that should help with your decision...you have 10mp HQ.HDR capabilities.

just take a look at WP7, they have a real smooth user interface & there games are up there with the iphone 4 & do you know what processor & gpu theyre using? answer,its the snapdragon with the adreno 205! just like you said its all about how good you use the hardware, even sony ericsson's PSP phone is using the snapdragon with adreno 205 chipset & the games look REAL GOOD! so everyone needs to realize it all comes down to who has more support with the dev's & if there manufacturer is willing to support there hardware with driver updates & integration with there u.i. mods...i say HTC is the one that the dev's support the most & that goes way back to the G1! so i say htc right now has the edge & is thinking about the future of the mobile media...3d screen will create new types of media & 3D app's ( think 3D games & app's as simple as facebook going 3D ) the dual cameras will allow for 180 degree photos & parallax photo capturs,hdr even 10mp photos. htc has the advantage right now. but i give the screen to sg2, the only thing i dont like is that they need to fix there gps & raise there resolution already it should of been over 800x450 already.

Qualcomm Snapdragon is used in the HTC. The Hummingbird was used in the Galaxy line. Hummingbird wins the matchup because the Snapdragons lackluster performance in the graphics department. That's the Snapdragons achilles heel even to this day.

Everyday use its fine. Start throwing games at it and the you will see it struggle compared to the other platforms.

I'm on Rogers up here in canada and I had the captivate before I bought the evo 3d when it was available from rogers about a month ago.

The captivate was an okay phone but with samsung's update to gingerbread still not available (even though they said summer) combined with battery life issues & touchwiz stinks, switching was a no brainer.

After using the evo 3d for a month now, i love the phone. I find the sense UI suits my needs and there is no slowdowns whatsoever. I use a bunch of the widgets and I absolutely love the the weather widget & lockscreen. I encountered no errors or problems with the phone and the screen is great. I'm looking forward to updating to ice cream sandwich and not having to use that crappy KIES software to do it.

In my personal opinion, I prefer the evo 3d for. But everyone is different and that's the beauty of android, you got a lot of choices. If you like samsung, get the GS II; likewise, if you prefer an HTC phone, get an HTC phone.

One thing I love about every android phone that I loathed about the iphone 3g I had is this...you can customize to make it your phone, not what apple or microsoft thinks you would like.
