Which phone is better? I'm looking to change phones... I have a G1 & have my eyes on both. Are there worse problems with the Shift than OG Evo or vice-versa?

Does either phone have the ability to change 'skins'?

Well its not a complete comparison.
Both are HTC devices.
EVO has 200mhz more processor and what a larger screen by half inch.
Shift has slideout keyboard.
Otherwise both have the same or about the same OS features.
At this point its more of a preference.
Do you prefer a smaller screen, do you prefer a physical keyboard?

I don't think the Shift has a front facing camera either, so if you want to use that super fast 4G for video conferencing, it ain't gonna happen on the Shift. My wife got the Epic because she wanted a real keyboard. She was very dissapointed coming from a Palm PRE with it's functionality and quickly replaced it with an EVO, which she now loves! In comparing the keyboards between the Shift and the Epic, the Epic's was better than the Shift's, IMO, but neither was appealing to me in any way (as I hate moving parts on my phone). I have been using the EVO for almost a year now and have yet to see or use a device that has really enticed me to switch. I say, go with the EVO. You do have a 30 day window to return it and get something else if you don't like it. And your 30 days resets with each device. Hell, try them all, then pick the one you like the best!

Just saw your question about skins. To answer directly, not really. There is a reported update coming that MAY bring the newer version of Sense to the EVO (along with a newer version of Android as well). However, this has not been fully confirmed by Sprint or HTC, so it is just speculation as of now. In the newer versions of Sense there are options for selecting different skins. With the version of Sense we have now, this feature is not there. You can, however, root your phone and load all kinds of custom ROMs and skins. If you root your phone you can really do whatever you want to it, but you need to read up on what you are doing or you could mess up your phone pretty bad. I have been rooted for almost 8 months now and have loaded just about every ROM that's out there. Each ROM brings it's own pluses and minuses so you have to read up on these as well. There are so many options for the EVO, it's kinda crazy. Check it out here...

Thanks guys!! Is the Evo larger than the HD2? *crossing fingers*

@IAmSixNine I kinda prefer the keyboard, but I'm definitely willing to use the touchscreen.. Is there any lags w/ the Evo at all?

@cloak.n.dagger The front facing camera is a hugeeee plus. I definitely could use that when I'm away from my laptop to conference.. Never knew until today that you could switch phones w/ Sprint.. I just may check that out.. HUGE plus, I wish there was an eta on the Evo 3D.. :)

Should be out June(ish) if it doesn't come in June, then definitely July because sprint is going to majorly push the evo 3D

The only thing bigger than an EVO is the Dell Streak (5" screen vs. 4.3"). Not sure what the screen size is on the HD2, but it can't be bigger. It could have a higher resolution, but I don't know the specs on the HD2. If I was going to pick a phone from the lineup today it would be between the EVO and the Nexus S. The Nexus S is missing some key features that a lot of people are barking about, but it's only day 2 of the release and there is already an update rolling out for it. That says a lot about this Sprint/Google partnership and their commitment to keeping this phone up to date. However, if you get into rooting and roming, then there really isn't a large difference between the two phones. Nexus S has a Humming bird 1GHz Proc and the EVO has a 1GHz Snapdragon Proc. The Hummingbird proc has a slightly better graphics chip. The Nexus S also has a better screen, super AMOLED which uses less power and could add to better overall battery life.

The EVO 3D will be out some time this Summer. That's as much as we know. Guess you could try out a few different phones using the 30 day clause to bide your time for the EVO 3D?!?

Update: Looks like HD2 is the same screen, size and resolution...

My wife just got the Shift thinking she would like the physical keyboard. Never uses it and is irritated with how loose it is getting. Pretty sure she is going to switch To the EVO after playing with mine over the weekend. I would highly recommend getting the og Evo.

That's pretty telling...The OG Evo is a year old and still gets recommended. I have no problem recommending it either. It's a workhorse.

The Shift is a great device, it was originally named Speedy for a reason. It's all about preference though. I chose the Shift because it was a newer device plus I love the size.. EVO was just to large for me. There's several threads like this over in the Shift forum if you want to see from Shift owners perspective.

Just remember, even though the shifts processor is 200mhz slower, it is more powerful than the OG evos and better on the battery. This is because its a second generation chip vs. the 2st gen in our evos.

IMO, the NS4G beats the Evo in everything but screen size (but better quality), hdmi, and micro SD card port. Thats what id suggest getting over anything in the current sprint line-up.

I have had my Evo since launch and have had no issues with it. It is a wonderful phone. Since I have rooted and flashed CM7, I have no desire for a nexus one or nexus S. I don't think you can really go wrong with the Evo. The only phone that has me interested in switching from the Evo is the Galaxy S II, but besides that, I think I will be staying with my Evo for another year.

Ahh okay.. Its getting much clearer.. Thanks you guys :)

I kind of expected the Evo to have its fair share of issues, but.. I think I just may get the Evo & test other phones out for 30 days..

HTC - Products - HTC HD2 - Specification

The nexus runs so much faster than the evo... I have had the evo since launch date, and love it, but if I had to choose now with the current phones on sprint, it would be the nexus.. This is probably why I ordered one from work. With that said, I will still be getting the 3d.. Anyways back to the subject.

The evo shift is a nice device. Its a much better built device then the evo, even though it does lack a few features. The charging port is braced, and the device is so easy to work on.. I havent seen a shift come back in my repair line with a loose charging port yet. With that said, the shift does appeal to girls more.. It does feel smaller in the hands ofcourse, but its a bit clunky. Once agian if it were up to me, ide get the nexus, otherwise, just wait for the evo 3d. Its still hard to believe how much faster the stock nexus is over my evo, even with the best custom roms on it...

I cannot help tp think the Evo Shift was desinged and built with Women as their main target.

Or people that want a powerful yet pocketable phone... not a brick strapped to their belt :p

hahaha... Yeah, this is true.. I played w/ an HD2 a few times; huge phone but nice.. I just want a powerful, solid phone, pretty much lol :D
