Hi,

I moved to the EVO 4G from the Palm Pre and I'm having a hard time keeping it and moving to the Iphone. The ONLY thing keeping me from switching is AT&T. Are there any points anyone can add to help my decision in keeping my EVO over Iphone4? Neither Network is Bad in Baltimore and the prices are about the same now that they make you pay for WiFi on SPRINT!

Here's my (Non-Technical) Review:

Iphone 4G SEEMS TO HAVE:
- Better Gaming and Graphics
- Better UI when Managing open apps
- Better and more Vibrant Colors on reocrded video & picutres.
- Cooler feel look (even with smaller screen)
- Better Apps

EVO 4G SEEMS TO HAVE:
- 4G Speed (Very spotty in Baltimore)
- 4:3 inch screen
- NO DATA CAP!

This is just my own observation, just wondering if anyone has anything better! I'm looking for FAIR, Unbias Opinion. No Apple Haters but more technical comments or experiences with both phones woulnt hurt.

Thnx!

EVO:

Cheaper plan
Better Network
More features (navigation, sprint TV, etc)

you seem sold on the iphone though. You should probably go that route.

Well, Kinda sorta, not really maybe. I was more into my Palm Pre then i am my Evo. I just want the best Hardware Out.

My Plan would be cheaper if i got rid of Mobile HOT SPOT! If it was Free, this post would not exist!
Sprint TV sucks compared to TV.com App (Quality)
Sprint Nav is the Ish! But I'm sure They have a good one too.

C'mon guys sell me my EVO BACK....LOL
I'll probably keep my EVO........... for a while.

EVO also can be used as a mobile hotspot.

Yup, and free wifi tethering if rooted; not sure if that is possible with the iPhone 4 via jailbreak.

Most of all...freedom from the grasp of Apple and their stupid integration of iTunes.

I'm not sure if they fixed it with the iPhone 4, but I could never get push e-mail working on my iPhone with gmail. Absurd having to pay $70-80/year for mobileme.

None the less, you should really be including the Droid X if VZN is good in your area. Hell, they allowed all current VZN members that could upgrade in 2010 to upgrade early for the Droid X. Most likely you'd be able to talk them down to a monthly price equivalent to Sprint.

What was I Thinking, I RUN MY ENTIRE BUSINESS THROUGH GOOGLE! MY BAD YALL. OK I'm BACK on my EVO!

cough root gives you free wifi tether cough

You might like the new Samsung Galaxy S series of phones.
Thought about the Epic 4g? It seems like everything you would want in a phone. Except it just looks like a kiddy phone. However, everything else you listed... it has.

Or the Droid X. Both seem like your style.

I'm a bit at loss for words... The pre had absolutely nothing on the evo. I came from the pre, and it was a nightmare. Apps opened up very slow, camera took 5 minutes to open, if it did decide to open. The phone got slower with every update, and the hardware and tiny screen are nothing compared to the evo. You would have to pry my evo out of my hands to go to an iphone. The screen was not way better than the evo's as some implied. I got better pictures out of the evo than the iphone, not to mention, web browsing is much better. No replacement for displacement. Although the iphones screen is a little clearer, it just is not worth the move in my eyes. After coming from a 4+ inch screen phone, the iphone just seems way to small. As for apples apps, they aren't all that people are cracking them up to be. Some apps are good, some are bad, but you cant use them all. If none of this matters to you, then get the iphone, but be careful how you hold it.

btw The evo does fine for gaming. It can only get better once the cap is off also. Then again, I have a ps3 for gaming. If Gaming is a huge issue, then get the samsung when it comes out.

Ok Ok, "Don't Hurt em Hammer". I think i may be a little too impatienct for Froyo or the unlcoking of the FPS cap everyone is saying.

I Rooted my Pre, i may have to do the same for this. I just hate to the feel of "having to root". But oh well, do what i gotta do!

Btw.....I'm Rooted Hot Spot (cough cough) will keep me a happy Sprint customer. - can then use my IPOD Touch for all my T-Pain Auto-tuner and Beat making!

You hate the feel of having to root. What about the feel of having to jailbreak your iphone?

What can I say when all these guys already said it all, except that over the weekend I played with the iPhone 4, my friend just got. I see nothing special about it, except it does come with nice app for editing videos but Android also has lots of apps for this. The screen is nice but small after having EVO. I realized that the iPhone without all the apps is just an iPod, but thats my opinion. You have think about what you want out of the phone and does this phone or that phone fit your lifestyle and not the other way around. I personally had Blackberry then moved to Pre and now i am on the EVO, got 3 of them for the wife and son, and they dont want to hear about getting iPhone, wife was crazy about iPhone till she got the EVO and now all I hear is I love this phone. I still ask her do you want iPhone she says are you crazy even after she had a chance to play with iPhone in store and from my friend. She was a huge CrackBerry fan then she had Samsung Moment, so basically you have to realize what you need. And go with it.

the best hardware out is going to vary on a monthly basis as the rush to claim the android throne has begun

Strongly disagree on the UI for open apps.

The iPHone looks cooler? If that's important to you, then I have nothing to say. I'm much more concerned with how it WORKS than how it looks.

Ditto on videos and pictures, although from what I've seen the Evo is better in bright light. The iPhone tends to overexpose a bit, which makes it look better in dim light, worse in bright. The Evo tends to underexpose a bit, which does the reverse. Both can be improved with a little bit of software tweaking.

Better Apps? I guess it depends on what you want. Certainly more apps, but try to use an alternate launcher, dialer, etc. I think apps on Android are going to get much better now that a critical mass of devices will attract more developers.

I compared an iPhone 4 to my Evo carefully yesterday. In spite of the higher res, I find text on the Evo much easier to read due to its larger size.

And the data cap is a huge fail for iPhone. Keep an old unlimited plan, and you can't tether. Want to tether? Then you have to use one of the new capped plans, spend money for tethering, and spend more money for exceeding your cap. Wow, that's customer friendly. Even if you don't tether, heavy use of Facebook, streaming music or video, and other internet use can easily put you over the cap.

But see my sig. No phone is perfect. If gaming, looking cool, and the camera are the most important things to you, then by all means look at something other than the Evo.

Well, Kinda sorta, not really maybe. I was more into my Palm Pre then i am my Evo. I just want the best Hardware Out.

Again, the hardware is nothing more than a platform for the software. The hardware does nothing by itself. If you think the software on the iPhone is better, then go for it.

As far as rooting, the Android is far more flexible without rooting than the iPhone is. In fact, it's probably more capable unrooted than the iPhone is even after jailbreaking.

So, ummm.... what's so new in this vers of the iphone that's different from every other iphone?

C'mon guys sell me my EVO BACK....LOL

Here's my take:

The hardware (minus the antenna issue) of the iPhone is absolutely off the hook gorgeous. The volume buttons, the glass, the weight of the phone, the modern design, really makes the iPhone shine. I actually had one for a week for testing purposes and was really wowed by the build quality. Text on the screen & battery life also impressed me.

BUT

Once you experience - intrusive pop-up notifications, a keyboard you can't dismiss (e.g., in text messaging, once you start typing, there's no way to minimize the keyboard), widgets that don't exist, a mail app that doesn't allow you to add attachments, a tiny screen (in comparison to the EVO), a non existent voice/data connection when you hold the phone a certain way (yet the signal strength never seemed to drop more than full bars hmmm), and an app store that contains a minimal # of apps with more than a 2.5 star reviews with no trial period, it really starts to feel like a step backwards.

All the other points above are also valid.

Also the back of the iPhone is very fragile. Many reports of cracked backs no the iphone already.

See,

I knew you guys would steer me the right way. I hacked the Palm Pre since the day i Got it, I will probably do it to every other phone i get from now on until they come out with the a perfectly GOOD operational PHONE that everyone likes....BETTER THAN THE IPhone!

Thanks PEEPS!
