I posted this in General Questions since I am posting for the first time and wasn't sure where to go with this..so apologies in advance....

Have Sprint EVO 4G and when I Sync to Google COntacts I do not get all my contacts to come down.

I have 2,000 contacts on Google and only 1,600 come down. I have wiped the phone and the same ones come down. If I add a new contact to Google it does not come down. I would htink thta after a wipe/hard reset that the contacts coming down would change even if I was hitting a contact limit..but they don't.

I have tried to find out if the EVO has a limit on contacts.

MY Free Space shows 355mb and my SD card is basically empty.. ANy ideas or suggestions?

Again, sorry for the double post - not sure where to put it... Thanks, Tom

google only pulls down your contacts that are synced to your google contacts. if you have numbers that aren't saved to google contacts. you won't get those.

i had the same problem. i found a tutorial on evo4gforum.net. written by khassy. she explains how to save everything on your pc. and put back into the phone in relation to gmail. really simple process.

now when i add numbers i make sure it's saved to google and not as phone. so when i load up a rom. all my numbers import automatically.

as for the limit. i have no idea.

Snowwy: Tx for the suggestion.

All my contacts are in Google cloud and they are only sync'd to Google on the EVO, they are not Sync'd to phone... will ck out that article...tx..

I asked Sprint what the contact limit was and they didn't know...

However, if I wipe the phone it just downloads the same contacts again not any new ones.

Wouldn't you expect some of the new ones to get synced and some of the old ones to get dropped but it doesn't do that.. even if there was a contact capacity issue it should still sync some of the new & drop some of the old...

you might be asking a question that none of us knows.

we don't have 2000 contacts. LOL.

you've gone where no man has gone before.

Tx. IT seems, at least to me that if I add a new contact in Google and Sync that at least the new contact would show up and an old one would get deleted if I was at a limit...this is where the logic breaks down for me... I do not get a Sync error or anything and if I wipe the phone it just puts the same contacts back... I just don't get it... :(

The limit is 10,000 contacts so that isn't the problem are any of these contacts formatted as a group or distribution list?

Yes.. I have several groups All contacts & My Contacts..They are connected in both groups.. Each group does not update either on the phone... Does that make sense? (Sorry if not clear) t

Any information formatted as a group or distribution list won't transfer into your Gmail Contacts list. Not sure why it doesn't but I guess you'll have to remove them from the group list then add.

Woulsd it make sense to export my contacts to v.Card file on computer, then save them from computer to SD card. Then wipe contacts off phone and import them from SD card? Then delete all Google contacts from cloud and do sync up to Google?

Tx Tom

I've never tried it that way, but I don't see why not just make sure you have them backed up just in case there's a problem.

I'm just tossing this out there but, you may have checked it already.

In contacts (People) on the phone, you have it set up to show everything? Google Contacts, Contacts without phone numbers, etc?

On the EVO thats done by opening People then Menu \ View. set options as you see fit.

Edit: also scroll down to "Popular Answer" in the following thread and see if that applies. It deals with gmail.com vs googlemail.com syncing issues

TTHanks, I'll ck it out... BTW, I have been trying to Export my Google Contacts (Cloud) to V.Card, etc so I can wipe my phone and then save the contacts to SD card but the contacts won't export.. This is really weird... tx

I just exported my GMail Contacts to Excel .csv file and it is a mess in there... I then set up a seperate GMail account and tried to import them and I got errors... so apparently my data is messed up... eventhough it looks ok in Google Contacts...

I'm not sure what to do with this but the headers, etc in the Excel .csv are all out of place... Not sure what to do next.. any ideas? BTW: I tried exporting as V.Cards and it won't do it.

tx Tom

UPDATE: I tried exporting my contacts from Google to V.Card & it wouldn't do it. I then tried export to Excel .csv.

IT exported and then I looked at the data and the headers are all messed up. (eventhough everything looks ok in the actual contacts on Google Contacts, Name, phone, etc.)

I then set up a new Gmail account and tried to import the contacts to Google and it failed.. so apparently there is a formating/header issue.

Anybody have any ideas on where to start to get this straigtened out?

Thanks,

Tom

did you go over to the forum i suggested and followed that procedure?

i don't have any office programs installed. so i can't tell you what excel does. i use openoffice.org. it's free and handles all microsoft and corel documents.
