Hi does anybody have any experience with connecting an evo to a car radio Pioneer AVH-P5900DVD and be able to view video?

I would like to be able to just play either a video podcast or any file and be able to output it to the Stereo.

Only thing I can do is connect aux port to RCA cables and hear audio.

The radio comes with an iPod connector and i can view video off the ipod on the screen. but I want to achieve this with the EVO

I don't think this can be done. To my knowledge, the Evo outputs video ONLY through the HDMI port- you'd need some converter to take that to an ANALOG composite signal, and then send that into the rear of the pioneer via composite video inputs.

The ipod interface I believe is proprietary - so while you may be able to send a video signal instead of via composite, via 3.5mm 3 band camcorder input- the Pioneer will only LOOK to that input if you're in the ipod video setting- thus it's looking for an ipod and probably won't work. So you're still relegated to the composite video input in the rear of the pioneer and trying to find a way to send the micro HDMI signal to composite.

I have the AVH-3200BT- and while I've never TRIED this- pretty sure I'm correct.

The Samsung Galaxy phones have video output via the headphone jack with that 3.5mm 3band connector I mentioned- so with that phone you don't have the analog vs. digital output from the phone to deal with- but I still think the Pioneer won't accept the signal via that size aux input jack as it's ONLY looking for video from an ipod on the software end of things.

I don't know if you can get an adaptor for that.... does it have a usb port?

I hope to see Android powered double din indash nav system soon. I bet it would integrate nice with a phone. Unlike the crappy and slow ipod interface. I have been disappointed in every one I have tried.

Honestly, I'd rather see a touchscreen DUMB interface input. Something that would display the horizontal "dock mode" of the Droid/Galaxy on a double din screen. If I could just run the phone from an indash screen (Pandora,Slacker, google navigation etc.) the in dash could then be VERY cheap and upgrading would only require a new phone!

It'll never happen.

I agree.....
it would be great to be able to dock your phone and use it on the in dash screen.

I will have my eyes on the the tablets when they start streaming in. Just need one the right size. There is already the hardware to make us of external amps, factory integration would be great for those with steering wheel controls.

btw does your pioneer deck have a usb port? I have kenwood and i have never tried it with my evo. I can hook up other usb devices to it and access them just like a thumb drive. Have you looked at pac for an adapter??

I can use USB devices- on the 3200- but it's not nearly as elegant as the ipod interface. Not even close. Also the ipodremembers the last song you were listening to- and loads and plays immediately upon the car starting up- USB doesn't do this and has to be scanned / mounted every time you turn on the car which results in a long wait- then you have to navigate to what you want to listen to all over again. This is my main issue for finally getting an ipod to use in the car. (I thought I'd use the SD card reader- but it has the same slow issues as the USB device.)

I'm also a drummer and have 1000's of songs to rehearse to- not something that's needed on my phone. So I have an ipod classic specifically for car and drumming use- and I don't mind having 2 devices. This also allows me to use the phone for streaming/podcasting/GPS and phone calling (shame the 3200BT doesn't have BT audio streaming...) So I leave the ipod for music- and plug in the phone via 3.5mm only when I need audio for streaming or gps- otherwise Bluetooth for calls works fine with the 3200.

I see the new line of avic nav systems are built for iphone use.... maybe the android community needs to start emailing them and asking for the android flavor????
