Evo and the Uneasiness

I took the leap and ordered an Evo online, but the more I read about it, the more issues I have about it. The Evo forums are riddled with problems and issues users are having with this phone. Since I still have the ability to cancel, the real question is should I? Or, should I move to the Droid X, or Samsung Epic?

its fine, most of the issues youre reading are non issues really. easily solved by making simple adjustments, the iphone 4 had(s) lots of issues too, as well as all other new phones and most are very very minor

I'm really eager to join the Android Family, and coming from a Blackberry Bold via AT&T, I want that experience to be stellar. I'm hoping for no disappointments.

the phone will make you happy Im sure, but you will have to make some adjustments, the phone right out of the box is a bit of a battery whore, and Sprint's service is defintely no worse than AT&T's over rated service.

"No disappointments" is setting yourself up for failure. But an overall amazing phone is what you'll get. :)

Every phone will have issues. The Droid X will have issues and the Epic will have issues. You gotta remember not many people are going to make posts about how everything is going perfect. People will make posts if they're having issues though. So keep in mind while it may seem like there's a lot of issues, you're only hearing one side if the Evo experience. I say keep it. You MIGHT have an issue here or there but in the end you will be satisfied

I think what you see "as a lot of complaints", is because the only people that write stuff in forums, is usually to ask questions about the problems they are having. This will happen on any forum. I have this phone and a friend has one also. We both have had no problems. Don't be discouraged, since you ordered one already. If it is between the Droid X and the EVO, go with the carrier. If you want a physical keyboard, maybe you should wait for the Epic.

Then, unfortunately, you will be disappointed. No phone can live up to some arbitrary bar of "stellar" which you and you alone will define.

Every single phone that is made and sold has problems, whether it be light leakage or not being able to be held in a certain way.

If you click on any of the forums listed at the bottom of these pages (Pre, Nokia, Crackberry, etc.), you can find endless forum posts about problems with those phone. That is the nature of technology right now.

Everyone is racing to get the "next best thing" and due to the fast production and evolution of technology, there just isn't time to do standard QA that would produce a perfect phone. (And, unfortunately, companies have to race to the production line or else they will be left behind in the dust.)

Most of the time, you will get a very, very, very good phone. But you will not get a perfect phone nor a phone that doesn't have something that will irk you in some way.

I love my Evo, but there are some things that I don't like about it. But the positives far outweigh the few things that honk me off about it.

Lower your expectations, realize that it is a smartphone and not a magic wand, and enjoy the experience.

I see where all of you are coming from, and I agree. Thanks for shedding light on the situation.

In ur quest for a phone let me knw if u find a phone with no issues so I can get it too, check every other forum...coming fr a pre n always in their forums I also saw many issues like the other guy said ur not gonna see the over all experience here because we have problem here we post it so we can get help ppl r not posting how well this device is n so low every forum honestly I LOVE THIS DEVICE!!!

I've had the phone since launch day and I haven't had any issues with it. It's by far the best phone I've ever owned.

I can honestly say that too, been a proud evo owner since launch day and couldnt be happier!

personally, i figure out which carrier has the best plan and coverage for my needs before i decide on the phone. it doesn't matter how great a phone is if the plan available doesn't fit your needs. carrier first phone second. if you want sprint (i've used sprint for over 8 years now i think) then the evo is your phone.

Is is also a new phone and as a result, there is a lot all of us have to learn about it. The quirks I have come across are: Bluetooth does not always transfer properly; an occasional slow down and that is it. Other than the software keyboard and lack of a hardware keyboard, I find it an excellent device.

I waited to see what Apple was going to announce before deciding to get an Evo. After the announcement a friend called our local Radio Shack and found they had 7! Evos. We hopped in the car and got 3 of them. LOL, this was a Radio Shack in a hardware store. Can't believe that had that many.

There are atleast 7 people where I work who have gotten Evos and they all love the phone. Coming from a Pre, the Evo has been a much better phone and now that the webos UI guy is working for Google, I hope he makes some great improvements in Android.

I don't think there is a *perfect* phone but the Evo is the best phone on Sprint.

I have to also agree with the sentiment your not getting the full story. People like me, and my mom, who I also got one, aren't on here talking about how happy we are with our phones. You tend to just hear the complaints here.

That being said, we are both extremely happy with our phones.

Most of the issues are non issues as mentioned above.
You gotta remember no one on here has a vanilla phone either. Everyone has tweaked in 1000 diff ways and added apps that are prob causing more problems.

I try not to add too much stuff at one time so I can narrow down the problems quicker.

The phone itself works very well. Just little stupid stuff happens from time to time that is likely just software glitches since its new.

It may not be as bugless as my Blackberry was, but I didnt user my Blackberry the same way as I use this. I have been trying to take advantage of some of the extra features in this thing lately

Honestly, I love my phone. The "issues" you read about aren't really that big of a deal. This is a great phone and you're going to love it.
