EVO & HTC Sync

Which Outlook are you using? Also, for me it didn't work the first time. I uninstalled and then reinstalled it on the Computer. Then I restarted the phone, shut off and turning on. I connected the USB and when on the phone the selection pop up, Charge, mount, HTC Sync and one other, I hit HTC Sync and the drivers started to load on the computer. I opened up Sync on the computer and manually did the sync. Now it works perfectly fine. You might want to go on the HTC forums for help.

Here is the link. It seems some people are getting working and some are not.

HTC Community

I am using Outlook 2007. I will check out the HTC forums. Thanks for the link!

I gave up and went with Companion Link/Deja Office. It's not Palm Desktop, but I'll learn.

Thanks for the shoutout hocndoc!

I just want to mention real quick that CompanionLink can sync tasks and notes as well as the contacts and calendar. We fully support sync with the EVO 4G from Outlook, as well as ACT!, Lotus Notes, Palm Desktop and more. Check out all the sync options at www.companionlink.com/phones/htc-evo-4g.html

I got it working..... I'll post a quick note to share what the problem was on PC1. I was plugging the USB cable into a 7 port USB 2.0 hub made by Belkin. For some reason it would not allow the phone to communicate with HTC Sync. I could mount the phone as a drive and that worked fine, but HTC Sync would not.

Anyway I got to trying different things and plugged the cable directly into a USB port that is directly on the Motherboard, and viola it works!!!!

I don't really understand why that would matter, but it did. Hope that might help some others out

When I had my WinMo phone, i was all about the cable-based sync. However, after moving to a Pre, it caused me to re-think why a cable-based sync was even necessary.

I would suggest sync-ing your local Outlook data with a google account. What I used to do what use a Google apps account and sync my Outlook data to that. It was a replica of my local Outlook data. This way I kept my Gmail and Outlook data (and its subsequent copy in the Google Apps account) separate.

After a while, I decided to move everything into my Gmail account and eschewed storing anything in Outlook at all. You may not be ready for that, but I do highly recommend sync-ing your desktop with a web Google account, and then the phone with the Google account. This way, your changes are constantly synced and you don't have to worry about plugging in and syncing to get the latest.

I am having the exact same problem as the original poster. No matter what I do my phone cannot find HTC Sync. Its driving me crazy. I've been trying for days now and nothing works. I even tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop. Ridiculous.

So uhh.. sync without the usb cable. You'll thank yourself later anyway, and wonder why you even wanted to use an archaic process from the 90s.

Big difference free and $40. With Companion Link you have to choose between USB and Wireless, which I don't like. $80 dollars for both USB and Wireless. And you have to go through Google for it to work, not direct. If there is a better option, that is wireless, that is not so much money, but also will give you USB connection, or the wireless could be direct from Computer to phone.

Disable/Remove Microsoft Activesync

Microsoft Activesync was the culprit in my case, running windows xp. I was able to sync one time when I first got my phone and spent countless moments on the phone with sprint tech support and then htc tech support with no success. Got a active sync message that popped up on my screen after my computer awakened from sleep mode. It asked if I wanted to disable activesync. I selected yes, hooked up my phone and htc sync immediately kicked in. I will be removing activesync all together once i've finished with my old moto q. Hope this helps someone else.

i synced to a PC from 1999-2009. i hope to never sync to a PC again. OTA Automagically is where it's at.

Disabled ATK task killing and restarted phone

Today I got HTC Sync working again. I disabled the auto-killing of tasks by ATK 2.0, and rebooted the phone. Syncing has worked successfully several times after I did that. Theory: ATK was killing something that HTC Sync needed? maybe in the middle of the sync even?
Theory not so good: I ran ATK and killed all of the same tasks that were set to autokill, and HTC Sync still works. Oh well, something for others to try. Maybe there is more to narrow down here.

HTC Sync and Lotus

My company uses Lotus notes. They do not let me put private information in the "cloud," nor do I want to. All I want to do is connect a cable and sync my contacts (occasionally) and my calendar. EVERY time I try to synch my calendar, I must delete HTC Sync off of my computer and reload it with the attendant reboots. I just got through with this process, connected my HTC EVO to the computer, and have now been waiting for over 30 minutes while it "syncs." At least that is what it says it is doing.

Synching contacts and calendar appointments is the bare bones basic functionality of a smart phone. I should not have to buy a $70 product to sync my calendar. (Thanks a LOT, Companionlink! - irony mode off). I cannot seem to find anyone to talk to about this problem. Sprint is too busy trying to sell me Nascar crap and music, HTC has no contact numbers, I am just completely lost.

Makes me want to switch to Verison and go back to WiMo. At least then I could see what airplane to get on...

Re: EVO & HTC Sync - Not recognized as connected to computer

:( HELP! I am connected to my computer with HTC EVO 4G DESIGN. The message is it must be plugged in with USB port. I cannot even get to drop down.

Does anyone have a solution? It is infuriating and such a freakin' timewaster!!!

HELP!

When you first plug into using usb option to use as disk should pop up. Did you download htc sync to pc first?

from Evo4GLTE on Android Central

:(What does this mean?
... so what I did was install the HTC SYNC that is stored on the SD Card that came with your evo. When you hook up your evo to your computer choose the option to use the "mount as drive", then install the HTC SYNC to your computer. When done, disconnect your EVO, then open HTC SYNC. Then connect your EVO and it should open up. Hope this helps.

THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING IS THE COMPUTER DOESN'T RECOGNIZE EVO IS CONNECTED. How do you hook up evo to computer if computer keeps messaging it's not connected?

Yes I did. Uninstalled it then reinstalled updated version. Still the same result. Hope you can figure this out and help.
