EVO keeps rebooting

Ever since the most recent update my EVO keeps rebooting. Sometimes several times a day. Right now it was sitting on my desk and started rebooting. It is in a loop. It has rebooted itself about 15 times so far and will not stop.

I've taken the battery out and it stopped---for a few minutes and then started again.

Before the recent update it was perfectly fine.

I would first try taking a look at your runing applications, maybe there is something there thats not suppose to be or soemthing that should be there but is not.

I would then do the all fabled, factory reset on the phone and go from there

It's hard to look at running apps when the EVO won't stay up. It is in an endless reboot.

No changes to the phone since the upgrade. So if anything is a problem it is the upgrade.

Hard reset WILL solve the problem.

Found in SD and Storage Menu in settings.

I also found it helped when I formated my sd card. It was quite full anyways.

I had the same problem. I tried everything, including several hard resets. I called Sprint and they sent me a replacement phone. Now I have not had any reboots since the replacement arrived. I would call Sprint and ask about a replacement.

I worked on it for about three weeks to try and figure it out. I did a hard reset and did not download a single app, and still had reboots. Pulling the battery sometimes stopped it, and sometimes it would continue to reboot even after a battery pull.

Call Sprint... just my two cents.

Ive fought with this for months. I've been told to do everything under the sun by Sprint, HTC, people on forums and friends. Nothing has worked. The number of hours this has taken me, the hassles, the resets. It's got to be hardware for some of these evo's. No known fix has ever helped my evo. I'm taking mine in tomorrow for exchange.

Reboots during use, now in loop

A while back I was using my Evo in the car, turn by turn via Google Nav. It rebooted 10 or 15 minutes in. Got into a reboot loop and never got out of it. I noticed at the time that the battery area was majorly hot, but i chalked that up to Google Nav just draining the battery extra fast, like it does.

So unable to get it out of the reboot loop I poked around places like this and the consensus seemed to be to factory reset it. That fixed it, I guess...

That was about 6 weeks ago.

Now it's rebooting during uh...normal use. I've had about 3 or 4 reboots looking at pictures. Last night it reset while I was zooming into a picture then again while surfing the web. Last week it rebooted while I was moving around in Google Maps (with the GPS off). Tonight...3 crashes - 2 while playing Air Control, 1 while just trying to open a picture. The last one put it into an infinite loop - again which is where it still is. A few reboots back it also got into a loop, but it seemed to work itself out of it after 4 or 5 cycles.

Before I factory reset it, again, uh... yeah, should I try taking it to Sprint? What can I expect? "Let us look at it for 3 weeks" ? What are the odds I can just get a replacement (and not a refurb) model?

Not rooted. All the latest updates. No task killer installed. Just some basic apps, I don't game on it much, basically just that Air Control thing. Gmail, Facebook, Twitter... random web surfing etc. I do connect to Exchange 2007 but I only need a pattern unlock method.

I do have "total equipment protection" or whatever they call it these days.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

I'm having the same issue with mine. I already did a factory reset and haven't had any issues. I think any time my phone gets just a little warm it triggers this reset. I've noticed that when i'm using my phone outside on a hot day or in direct sunlight that the phone gets a little warm just from the elements and that's when it's most likely to reset and get in the restart loop. I've been using the Nav in my car and it started restarting then I put my air conditioner on it and it didn't have an issue anymore. Also, when it's restarting in a loop I pull the battery and wait a few minutes then I think it has cooled off enough to work okay. It restarts whenever I use it for more than 2 minutes using any app it seems. So frustrated with it, but I haven't had a chance to go to the Sprint store. I've seen other forums and threads about this and many have tried to go to Sprint to get a replacement and have been denied, so I'm not looking forward to the experience. Can't seem to find an answer otherwise.

I would just take it to Sprint, if there's actually something wrong with it they shouldn't give you any problems. The biggest thing is being able to reproduce the problem. If they can't find anything wrong with it then they cant really do anything about it. Of course, their first solution will be a factory reset. If the problem comes back after that, they will probably replace it.

I kept experiencing it. It would go for an hour or more in a continous reboot cycle. Took it to Sprint on Friday. They looked at it and said a hard reset would fix it. They did and I walked away. About 10 minutes later it started doing the same thing. Went back and got a replacement EVO. So far this one has been OK. Just a pain to setup everything again.

yeah, that's a common problem with running Task Killer apps.

Remove any task killer app and reboot the phone, it will take a couple days
of use for the Android OS to properly relearn what the Task Killer
has screwed up.

Is your Evo rebooting after a factory reset? Have you installed any apps after a factory reset, then reboots? I suggest to do a factory reset, then monitor for another reboot while there are no other apps installed. If you notice a reboot in its factory state, then its a defective phone. Have you upgraded the PRL/Froyo after a Factory reset? Maybe you should upgrade the phone first then monitor for another reboot. If no reboot, install the first app, then monitor, then install another app, then monitor, etc... With this method, you can see if any of your apps are causing the reboot conflict. Make sure that some of tha apps you are installing are compatible with your installed Android version.

I have been having the same problem with my EVO rebooting for no reason. I experienced it today on the way in to work and it was in an endless cycle as others have mentioned. My phone is not rooted, no task killer, and I have already performed a factory reset only to experience the same problem. Called HTC and was told to disable the GPS option under settings. Go figure.

I called Sprint Advanced Tech support and they are sending out a replacement today. They didn't give me any hassle what so ever. Feel free to thank me if this works for you. I was a little frustrated at first but my faith was restored when Sprint agreed to replace my phone. Still love my EVO. No disrespect to the other Android phones but the EVO is the bomb!!

i will have to give this a try, because mine for some reason on Saturdays, go figure, it reboots in loops. Doing simple things, such as , opening web browser, opening youtube and opening clock.

I even have video of it happening, i recorded it rebooting 7 times in a row w/ my palm pre. video footage sucks though palm pre camera is lame lol.

BTW this all started happening after the last update that fixed the FPS. Before this I never had issues w/ phone rebooting its self..

Just called and complained to sprint and they sent me a new one, w/ free next day air shipping. no questions asked, our account manager said, IT department needs this phone asap, they are always on the go. I never even brought it in for them to check or anything.

i did try to reformat the phone but that didn't work. (non-rooted evo)

My EVO started the resetting problems a couple of weeks ago, as long as i only use it as a phone it works fine, but when I use it for navigation or sprint tv, it will get hot and start rebooting. I have to remove the battery and let it cool then reinstall and it works for a while. I took to Sprint store this morning, they did a hard reset and said it was fine, of course I did not think so, they said they had never heard of this problem. Well it just started again, I called the tec and he wanted me to come up and sign another form so he could order me a phone. I was able to convince him to order and let me sign when he gets phone and I come back. Hope the new one works! This one did for several months, no problem.

Dwest - I had the same exact problems, right down to the overheating battery. It worked fine for several months, and then all of a sudden I started with the rebooting. I would shut off all GPS functions, but it would still reboot on its own. I called Sprint CS and they sent me a replacement. I have not had a single reboot since then.
