Evo opens wrong chat log in Messaging app

Often in Messages app I will tap on the first message log shown at the top of the screen, and it will highlight properly, but then the app will instead open what had been the last message log shown on the screen (i.e. the one shown at the bottom of the screen without scrolling down). Hitting the back button and then trying to open the message log a second time then opens the correct one. So far this has happened a couple of dozen times so it's definitely not my imagination. I've only had the phone for four days, and I only have 15 messaging threads in the app, and I have not installed any 3rd party messaging apps.

Anyone else having this problem and/or have any suggestions for fixing this? A couple of times this has resulted in me sending text messages to the wrong person, and now I have to double check every time I open a messaging thread to make sure that it's in fact the correct thread. Came from a Palm Pre and between this and a bunch of other flaky behaviors I'm so far very unimpressed at the polish of Android.

This happens to me probably once a week as well. Which really isn't too often, as I send/receive upwards of 15,000 texts a month. I'm using Handcent SMS. I've seen others on the forum report the issue as well, but can't recall if they're using the stock app.

As someone who also came from a launch day Pre to Android, I'm a little surprised to hear you say you're flat out unimpressed with the overall polish of Android. To each his own. I'll admit the phone definitely has some faults/bugs. But compared to the Pre, which felt like if you weren't "smart" enough to apply homebrew patches and make the phone usable, the amount of features and customization available on the Android platform puts it on an entirely different level. Just my opinion.

I haven't used the messaging app in a long time... so I haven't experienced this problem.
And I came from a Pre... atleast Android has different apps that you can have instead of the stock apps. I don't understand how you can be unimpressed.

My Pre could open the messaging app and a conversation... and my Evo could open the same conversation probably 3-5 times in the same time...

You might want to get a 3rd party messaging app. Handcent sms?
