Is there a thread with step for step instructions for setting up Evo for video chat looking at what options are available/known issues ec.?

For example, Evo to other device, Evo to PC, Evo to Mac, etc.

Thanks for the direction

i would like to know as well because i have yahoo messenger video chat working but there seems to be a lag in audio.....

You may want to try searching for threads relating to Skype, Yahoo Video chat, Tango video chat, QIK video chat etc.

More likely to find the thread you are looking for based on a search of some of the apps the EVO uses to do video chat.

Tango is great for mobile-to-mobile and is cross platform.

To my knowledge Skype allows chat to PC's and Macs (as well as other phones that have Skype installed).

that is what I wan wanting to avoid - and help others avoid as well, is multiple searches to find out app specific answers. First, it would be great to have those threads all linked together, but moreover, many users (myself included) may not know of several of those apps to even try a search for them. searching just for video chat gathers more hits than anyone has time to read.

I would guess this is an often asked question.

What are you looking to do the most? Find the best client for mobile to mobile chat?

To my knowledge (until Google releases video chat) Skype is the only program that permits a video call to a computer.

Beyond that, I would highly recommend Tango. It is what I use and I have tested it with 3G, 4G and Wifi with multiple devices that my friends have (i.e. iPhone, EVO, G2, Incredible etc).

Obviously it helps if the other phone has a front facing camera, but that is not required, as it can use the rear camera too...kind of defeats the purposes of video chat in my opinion (if there is no front facing camera), but it still works.

Plus the video and audio quality is MUCH better than QIK.

I was wanting to know what options there are in totality, the limits etc for each.

It kinda sucks you need a different app for device to device vs, device to PC/Mac.

Your best bet is to go on AppBrain.com and search for the standard video chat app, Qik, and then take a look at the related apps. You won't find a compiled list of all the video chat apps, in fact, you wont find a compiled list of many subcategorized apps. I think the closest thing you can get to reduce searching around is on AppBrain, at least there you can see other users reviews and get basic info on the app. Cross-compatibility will definitely be needed so the app will need to have full website support as well. That should be the foundation of your search.

Your best bet is to check out each app, read the reviews, check out the developers website, and look through the applications settings manually.

And then if you'd like, you could possibly create a Video Chat GoTo Guide that i'm sure the moderators would love to sticky in the Applications Forum.

i tried the yahoo messenger video and it works great as long as the computer that your calling has messenger downloaded and i just did a yahoo messenger evo to iphone 4 with no problems
