Just discovered that when I hold my Evo in landscape mode with WiFi on & my left hand covers both left and right bottom of the device, it drops one bar immediately n if I remove my hand, it comes back immediately.

I also have a bodyglove case on the device, and was curious if others have noticed or their device exhibits same behavior when held in landscape mode on WiFi.

I think your crazy for posting this. I have never heard anybody say anything about this being a issue until the iPhone4 went hey wire and now people like u are posting they are having this problem with there evos.

Do you have any decrease in speed between the loss of the one bar?

I have the same issue. Many others have as well. Check the Bad Wifi Range thead here or the Wifi thread on the HTC support forum.

I'm waiting for other people to come in here and start posting this same stuff about the interference issue while holding it. Lol people need to just sit back and enjoy there evo. Hell unlike Apple saying its the users fault, since Evos launch, HTC and Sprint has released 2 major updates to fix problems. Yes in 3 weeks with 2 great updates. And yet people still say HTC is a ****ty company.

I just noticed this after the new update, since before I always had one bar during WiFi n never saw it. How am I crazy for reporting a issue that I'm seeing?

Apparently others have reported in the bad WiFi range thread, which I didn't read cuz there is a lot of pages. Stop taking any reported issues as if ur personal fortune is tied to it.

No where in this thread does it say HTC is a ****ty company, I was curious whether this was a known issue or if it was only my device.

I realize anything may affect radio signals but I find all negative comments crazy. Talk about rampant retarded fanboyism..

It's a valid question and it's a real issue.

Many in this crowd are starting to act like iPhone fanboiz. I read a thread today where a user wasn't happy with his yahoo mail on Android and everyone was flaming they guy for not switching to gmail. I like Google, but they are not the end-all-be-all. And HTC makes great phones, but they are not without issues.

I don't do speed tests, so I don't know if I have decreased speed. What I find interesting is that it only affects the WiFi radio & not the cell radio.

I guess I will chalk it up to WiFi issues suffered by the Evo, but I never noticed this before the update, since it dramatically improved my WiFi signal. Just wanted to make sure other evos have same issue & my otherwise perfect Evo is not suffering from a defect.

But find the fluctuation pretty funny n only comparison was the overall crappy signal issue wit iphone4

I noticed it b 4 the update. It doesn't affect my browsing or video experience so it doesn't concern me personally. I have noticed a huge increase in speed with the new update. And the bandwidth test I have done show this.

Lol I never said anyone here has said HTC was a ****ty company, but in other threads and other Android websites I have seen HTC get trash talked about. The WiFi signal I understand, but since the iPhone issue I have read in more then a few places where they said they had the same iPhone issue.

Actually, putting your hand on ANY phone can interfere with the radio signals, but the effect should be minimal if noticeable at all. Putting a case on your phone can have a slight effect as well. Any object that is put between the phone and the signal source (cell tower, wifi router, etc) will reduce the strength of the signal getting to the phone, as well as the signal being transmitted. This is why phones used to have antennas that pulled out from the top of the phone.

This is NOT the same issue that the iPhone has though.

Some genius at Apple decided to use the metal ring that goes around the iPhone 4 as the antenna. Sounds like a good idea but there is a (not so) small problem with the idea. Antennas are designed to be a specific length in relation to the frequency they are intended to recieve (and transmit). Your body is a conductor so when you hold the iphone 4 in a way that your hand touches the gap in the antenna, it pretty much shorts out the antenna and it doesn't effectively pick up (or transmit) the frequency it is designed for.

That's why using a case solves the problem, because you cant touch the exposed antenna. All Apple would really need to do to solve this problem is have that metal ring (the antenna) covered in a rubberized coating similar to what is on many phone cases. This would really only cost a few cents per phone. I suppose this wouldn't be as "stylish" as the bare metal, but they could do this in black and white to match the phones or even offer it in several different colors.

I haven't done the update, and I have no case. I also don't see the problem you're reporting. At the moment, I've got the dot and 2 bars on the WiFi indicator, and I've been unable to find any position of the phone or my hands that changes that.

This is an issue with all handheld wireless devices, including the EVO. I have seen it myself, but since the update my signal quality is better and the problem has not caused issues.

As for the new forum police trying to keep people from reporting what they see, grow up.

I am trying to recreate this with no success. Maybe you can post a pic of what you are doing. And correct me if I am wrong but you aren't actually experiencing a drop in quality but just a loss of a bar.

I tested mine by completely covering the phone with both hands while having a Rubber Body-glove case on and not one bar dropped! You might want to check your router and also keep in mind that by putting your hand over the phone you are simply creating interference.

let me first off start by saying i hate apple products.......!!!!!....... now i can say i have seen the issue but mine is a little different when I am using my phone as hotspot and i hold the bottem left corner i lose signal on laptop .... its not that big of a deal seeing its only wifi and not call signal but just confirming i have seen it too......Not sure about after update but i have seen it before update for sure oh and i have the body glove the sell through sprint on my phone might be that and not phone ...???
