So for the past three weeks I have been searching the forum for possible solutions and have failed to find any. My phone no longer gives a notification of usb connection. I've tried three different cables and still I get no response from pc or phone. I've double checked all the settings

-"ask me" is checked \\**defalt set to disk drive**\\

-under settings/applications/development all boxes are unchecked

Can anyone offer any other advice than what's above? I've read numerous threads where people had these issues due only to the above. However, my phone doesn't even give a notification that I have connected my cable.

quick fix

Under menu. Settings. Applications. USB debugging. Has to be checked and memory card inserted. If that doesn't work you might need to format your card.

All that enables(at least on my phone) is just a notification alert for when you want to disable debugging, which has never been on before this problem

Could I have possibly deleted something off my phone which would cause this?

When I first bought this phone it, when I plugged it up to my laptop it sent me a notification that asked me what type of connection I wanted ex: charge only or disk drive. How do I get that back?

i had that problem once. installed htc sync and everything worked again.

i've since uninstalled htc sync but it still works. i'm guessing becuase the drivers are still loaded.

for whatever reason. you probably don't have drivers loaded on your computer anymore.

windows vista didn't seem to have a problem but win7 needed drivers.

This is the very thing I was going to recommend as well. Download HTC sync just for the drivers.

I don't think the problem is in htc sync, because I used to be able to plug my phone into my car stereo and use it for a disk drive for music. Now all it does is charge, if i set default to disk drive, it doesn't even do that. The problem is in the phone..

So it doesn't recognize it in anything? huh...

Quick question as I didn't see it mentioned. Is your phone recognizing your sd card?

you'll have to explain this using your phone as disk drive in your car stereo to play your music. cuz i've just been using the audio jack capabilities.

if my phone can't read the card. like when it's plugged into the pc. then it won't play the music.

i know new radios now have usb plugs. but isn't that the same as plugging into the wall charger?

A lot the new car radios that have USB plugs can connect to MP3 players and play that way or connect to a flash drive and just play the media on the disk. It isn't streaming, it's just the EVO being used as a thumb drive with music that the car stereo plays.

I believe it would only appear as a wall charger to the phone if two specific pins on the USB from the radio are connected, otherwise, the phone sees it as a USB / mass storage connection.

I have the same problem. If I use the USB cable and plug it in to my laptop, it will charge and the computer will make a noise but I can not find the phone as being connected on the laptop. It will not do anything but charge.

The only solution that I have found that works for me is to turn my phone off and then turn it back on. After that, the notification will pop up on my Evo and let me choose charge only, disk drive, etc.

Yep, I've formated the sd card as well.

Chloe0622 I have the same problem. If I use the USB cable and plug it in to my laptop, it will charge and the computer will make a noise but I can not find the phone as being connected on the laptop. It will not do anything but charge.

Just got home from work and gave it a try. Still, it gives me no notification.

What operating system on the pc are you running? Have you tried a different computer?

Is the sd card carrying any large files?

I run XP at home and W7 on campus. I can't connect at either one. I don't have any files on the sd because it's formated

maybe it's not properly formatted.

i think someone said the card had to be fat32 for androids to read. i'm not sure. so take the card out. plug into pc and try different formats.

fat16
fat32
ntfs

FAT (aka FAT16) is good for a 2GB file system on Win95/98, and up to 4GB on Win2k/XP
FAT32 is good for about 128GB.
NTFS is good for several Terabytes, but it is a proprietary file system that is non-native to Linux.

If you want to try formatting, try the official SD card formatter:
SD Formatter 3.0 for SD/SDHC/SDXC - SD Association

**Please do not try to format your card NTFS** Your phone will not be able to use it.

How about formatting from the phone? Menu / Settings / SD and Phone Storage / Unmount? Then Format.

Tried both formats and still nothing. Thinking about taking a trip up to Best Buy and take advantage of my warranty...:-\

try reloading the rom. maybe it's a glitch.

it would't be the first time people have had problems solved with a wipe and reload.

and if your rooted. that's the first thing sprint is going to do is restore phone to stock. so might as well save yourself the hassle and try it at home first.
