I recently switched to android after using iOS/Mac ecosystem for 5 years. Many of you know and understand that side of things. Tightly integrated, closed, but functional system.
After hearing my brother go on an on about how, if I didn't like a keyboard, change it. Don't like this or that? Change it. Widget? Not in iOS. etc.
It sounded cool because as many of you also know, the Apple system isn't perfect, and after using it for 5 straight years and only getting a .5" extra row of icons, I got bored.

I came here and asked too many questions (thanks for all the help) and finally decided I was going to do it. Move to android.
After living at the AT&T store for 2 weeks while waiting for my upgrade to come available, I found my device. The LG Optimus G Pro.
Going from 4" to 5.5" is awesome. Yes, it is a Big screen, but I was so tired of the tiny 4" on the iPhone, I feel in love with the LG screen.

SO I get my android device, set it all up, downloaded all my app, found replacements for things iCloud used to do, hid or foldered all the useless stuff and bam, I'm done.
On my home screen, I have it set up like my iPhone, all my "daily apps" and the stock LG weather widget at the top.
Looks great.

I have found that I don't really care for widgets. They are just big icons for the most part, I would rather just go into the app and use the full functions of that app.
I love the weather widget, but that ended up being the only widget I use at all.

What I am getting at is this: I went android, set up the phone, and don't get me wrong, I do Love the OGP. There are many parts of the phone that are much better than the iPhone:
Keyboard (stock LG messenger app) blows the iPhone away. The 3 wall wallpaper is nifty. Love the bigger screen. I can't find much of anything that the android device won't do that the iPhone will. Apps are the same quality as iOS versions.
But, now that I am all set up. I am back to the same situation as the iPhone. I don't root phones. I haven't messed with different launchers because I like the phone the way it is.
Im back to a few screens of icons and A widget.
I am asking myself, ok other than screen size, did the move do anything to change the boredom?
Unfortunately, Not really.

So I am curious, how many iPhone switchers have found themselves in the same boat? You switched, got set up and realized, not much really changed.
You still have screens full of icons, maybe a few more widgets that I have, but did is it Really SO different that you haven't asked yourself, Why did I switch?

This is just random thoughts. I would like to see if any other switchers feel like I do. Don't get me wrong. Until iPhone comes out with something bigger than 4" I am here to stay.
i LOVE LOVE LOVE my LG OGP. Feel like I made an excellent choice for my android device despite the other 2 biggies (S4/HTC).
There are still things I like better on iOS. BUT. There are also just as many things I like better on android. 50/50 tie to me. One isn't "better" than the other to me.

Thoughts/Feelings? Please don't make this my phone > iPhone thread. That's not the intent here. Samsung, HTC, nor LG is giving Any of us a paycheck for supporting their device.

I always say just get a phone with attractive features, because that will make the difference ( not so much operating systems if you like both). That's why I don't find the iPhone impressive for my taste. And that is why I love my HTC One... Dual front speakers, beats audio, zoe, blinkfeed and a large screen with a beautiful case. My last phone I liked because it had full HD camera and a decent size screen, but I have to admit no different than an iPhone as a regular user. So I completely agree with you B-).

HTC One>galaxy>iPhone

I am not an ex iPhone user, but I do have some questions, and don't worry...not gonna grill you about your choice. In fact, if my upgrade was right now, the Optimus G would be a device I would have to choose from (I'm Sprint).

Which launchers did you try? They aren't all the same, and sometimes the fun is seeing if there is something better our there. And if you like LG's stock launcher, great. Widgets are kinda the same. I agree that some are battery killers, some are just bigger icons, it's just finding the ones that you like. Me, I only have 3 widgets: 1 Weather, battery gauge, and Play Sound Search.

Lastly, did you know that you can disable apps in the Application Manager?

I "almost"went HTC one because of Zoe, beats, speakers etc. The One does have a beauty of a screen much like the LG. I did switch because I didn't want a phone AND a tablet, so the LG works great for me. Big beautiful screen. I like that the UI is "out of the way", again, much like Sense 5. I don't regret the switch. I just find in the end, I use this phone exactly as I would an iPhone.

I had the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5. I pre-ordered the 5 just because it was "Apple" I didn't look at the specs when I should have. A few months after I had the iPhone 5 I thought "Why did I want the 5? It's the same thing as the previous iPhones." With iPhone, Apple really doesn't do any major changes and there is very little difference between the iPhones. After pre-ordering and I received it in the mail I got bored of iOS really fast. Then I thought about Android. Its an open OS and I wanted to try it. I also had a friend who had the iPhone 4 but was bored of iPhone and wasn't really liking iPhone as much so we both got the Motorola DROID RAZR M. I have to say I love Android!! There's a variety and a lot of innovation in Android and Android phones and some of the specs with Android phones are insane. Like with the GS4 specs that phone is ridiculous lol. It runs on 2 processors a 4 core and 8 core and everything in the phone and the hardware and everything about the GS$ just blew me away. I know Apple can do a lot better with iPhone. With Android you are able to do so much more with it and it's open which I really like. I don't plan on going back to iPhone. I still like Apple. I would get a Mac over a PC if I could I just don't like iPhone anymore. Apple really needs to step it up with a new iOS and now with Jony Ive in-charge of design or whatever of iOS hopefully iOS 7 will be revamped and totally new and Apple needs to step it up in specs with the iPhone. I do not regret switching to Android at all!

I haven't tried any launchers yet. One of the reasons for the LG choice was the nearly non UI, the polar opposite of samsung.
I may try some. My brother has recommended sbp? spb? something like that, and launcher 7, Nova. Some of em look a little "gimmicky" maybe..
But ya that was the first thing I did, was delete every app possible minus 1 or 2. The rest of the "bloat" all went into folders.

I have to agree there daylanrod. Android / Google are innovating much faster than Apple. I watch the e n t i r e 3 hour google I/O 2013 today. I walked away very impressed.
I'm like you. I don't have any hate or dislike for Apple. Heck I still like Apple stuff. I just had to have a change. My "change" ended up being more about the screen size in the end vs the OS.
Jony Ive better pull a rabbit out his **** with iOS 7 or iPhone will lose even more marketshare. Even then. iOS 7 could be amazing, but it will Still be on a tiny 4" screen.
I could just get a refurb iPod touch and enjoy all benefits of iOS 7 and keep my android for my real daily driver.

I am actually running Nova now. Not really gimmicky, but highly customizable.

I think that's normal to feel once you go to something new and you get it to your liking. You get bored again. I think it's normal human urge for something new and shiny.

Just my take on it.

I will do the same. If Jony Ive really pulls through with iOS 7 totally revamped like what people are predicting he will then I will get a iPod touch or iPad but Google/Android will be my #1. In my opinion if iOS 7 is all redesigned and everything that will help Apple I think a lot to hold on to its users for a little longer but Apple will also have to really step it up with specs for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad too not just with iOS 7. I also saw the entire 3 hour Keynote for Google I/O 2013 and was also very impressed. Apple has WWDC 2013 in June so we will see what Apple has in store.

The thing is, what people are predicting is getting pretty wild. I think the reality is going to be far smaller than the hype the media and readers are generating. My gut feeling is all we're going to get is some cosmetic changes to the UI throughout the OS and maybe some added features thrown in but none of the deep core functionality changes that the public are wish listing.

I believe there are differences in the way people view their devices. Some like to be able to tinker with their devices and spend a lot of time trying new things with them. For these people, they find enjoyment in being able to do this. This population most likely would be bored with iOS and the iPhone I would assume. Then there are others like me that it is more about the apps. I don't really care about tweaking my phone or setting up widgets and home screens. I'm all about the apps. That's where I get my enjoyment.

There's 2 other factors at play, functionality and hardware. iOS has tighter controls on how much apps are allowed to integrate with the OS. While this allows for more security, the trade off is the amount of things you can do unless you jailbreak. Screen size I never thought I'd care about either until I tried going back to 4"

Hi MayConvert...
I had an iPhone 3GS, then onto the 5, as didn't see any point in going to 4/4S for the reasons stated above (no real drastic changes PLUS expensive!). I lost the 5 recently, with retrospective insurance but didn't claim, and at ?700 to replace for a PHONE! I decided against it.
I needed a phone ASAP due to work calls and bought a HTC Desire C. It's a stop gap phone, and I have to say its my first flirt with Android and I am impressed! I like the way you get all the notifications at the top that you have a LinkedIn message, Twitter, FaceBook, Gmail, What'sApp, missed call etc
The phone has slowed down a lot after the first 2 months of use and takes a while to open a screen sometimes, but this is probably the spec of the phone? I have disabled and deleted apps as much as I can, and only use the phone really for calls and the odd messenger app.
Where possible I use the iPad 3 (see other thread here in this forum "iPad Alternative")

I like Android and the subtle little things are a nice touch and change from Apple. Equally, there are plenty of things I like better on Apple, mainly the speed, and the syncing between devices, however a change of device could fix this.

100% what you did. I have a widget for the AC app and the music controls with the bolded clock but other then that I just have folders and apps with 4 home screens and defualt keyboard. that being said once you launch an app Android has a far different to things which I agree with.

You're right what people are predicting is pretty wild. I doubt Apple will change a whole lot on iOS 7. I'll be surprised if iOS is changed a lot but we will have to wait until WWDC.

This is the exact same boat im in. Ive had all iPhones and alot of android phones. I just like both for different reasons. I get bored with the iPhone so I go to my s4. After setting it up and using it for about 3 weeks now I see things are about the same then i might go to my iphone for a few. Dont get me wrong I love my s4 but at the end of the day both phone still have icons that launch apps.

Switched from years with the iPhone 3gs and 4s to the Nexus 4 and I don't imagine I'll ever go back to iPhone. I don't miss a thing.
