Exchange service - SMS Relay?

Exchange service is constantly running in the background. It runs one of one processes and that is SMS relay? Does anyone know if this is a possible battery drainer, what purpose it serves and how to remove it? I do not use the mail application, only gmail with all syncs off. I'm assuming this sms relay is automatic text message retrieval?

EDIT: I also have Sprint ID constantly running. It's running an updater service. How could I safely remove it?

Can you pasta screen shot of the sms relay? Regarding Sprint ID, I don't think you can If you are stock.
