Exclamation mark by volume icon

What does this icon do? It seems to just mute the voice for me, but why would Google Maps have two mute buttons?

I thought that was supposed to mute route warnings (traffic, accidents, change in route), but you should still receive turn-by-turn navigation cues.

Thanks! I'm gonna give it another try and check to see if it was just my volume that was off as the reason why I didn't hear the lady talking.

Mea culpa! I got it wrong! It was the other way around: The 'exclamation speaker' mutes all cues BUT alerts, so yeah, what you noticed was correct because probably your route didn't have any traffic warnings or re-routes. The mute button mutes all sounds, and the full speaker keeps all sounds 'alive'.
