EXCLUSIVE: Verizon Dropping Google Search From All Future Androids? ? Android Phones, Android Tips, Android News Thedroidguy.com

"We’ve been working on this story since yesterday in regards to the Verizon Samsung Fascinate, A Galaxy S Phone. After the Samsung Galaxy release event in late June we discovered, as the rest of you did, that Bing would be the search on the fascinate. We pinged Verizon spokeswoman, back on July 1, 2010 who gave us this reply: “We also have a great relationship with Microsoft and Bing is the default search engine on our feature phones. Customers may change the search engine on their phones if they like. ”

Edited by Phil: Please don't post entire stories from other websites. Especially stories as poorly thought out and as poorly sourced as this one.

I thought this was just a samsung thing as they are one of the first hardware companies to partner with Microsoft for their Windows Phone 7 lineup for 2010q4. I'm going to be super pissed if this ends up becoming the case for ALL android phones. But I also hope that with rooting people can get google search and other google apps back

yea really that will be so stupid of vzw i am hoping this is not true i mean offer it as an option sure but do not remove the google experience since it is their os.

I don't want bing. Why are they doing this to people? Lol

See my edit above. I think that just about sums it up, and this is the last we shall write about it. But just in case you need more:

Microsoft: No, Bing Is NOT Powering All Verizon Android Phones

Apologies for pasting the entire story Phil. I also read the link you've posted earlier today. 2 observations though from that article...
I just don't trust Vzw. Especially with how they've pulled the same thing with their Blackberrys (& still no option to switch back to Google/Yahoo to date).

From your link:
"The deal for Verizon Android devices is not exclusive."
We called to get clarity on the matter. Bing will be on a many Android phones, but not all, as part of a 5 year mobile search pact signed by Verizon and Microsoft in the first half of 2009."

You can perceive that statement both ways.

1. That the deal is not exclusive to VZW so therefore Microsoft may have agreements with other wireless carriers.

2. The deal is not exclusive to all VZW Android devices.

They were never clear on their statement.

On exclusivity, do you think any customer will say, "if it does not have bing, i will not buy this phone." Bing would be the last thing, i need. Having all my android google features is a must.

MS is like IBM was in the late 80's and Bill Gates summed it up best when he said "IBM is irrelevant!" At the time I was an IBMer and that comment hurt but it hurt all the more because it was true.

Now, fast forward 20 years and MS is becoming increasingly irrelevant and there approach is to do what they have always done -- throw there weight around and force people to do what they want. I think this is kind of a last gasp from them and it will be interesting to see if Verizon has to back peddle on this.
