expand storage

Supposedly yes. I'll be testing that out for myself, there are USB3 sticks that are much faster than any MicroSD card.

Let me know on the expandable storage, I have a 256GB usb3.0 jump drive that would work great if it supports it.

Ok it appears that expanding storage only works to MicroSD, not to USB. Weird given how much faster a lot of USB storage is.

I believe that one review I read said that the M update would allow you to format a USB drive to work as external storage. I know that does not help now...

Also, people on xda have been running the whole system on external ssd's through the USB with some hacking. I am sure that that sort of thing will eventually happen for the Shield.

No hacking required, the Shield TV has native USB HDD support. I have a 2TB Western Digital drive attached to mine. 100% stock 1.1 update. Very nice.

I want to buy a shield however i'm wondering if 16gb + 2TB hdd is sufficient for gaming, can someone test if placing the files on USB/Micro SD stores a game/app on the external storage or not.. If yes is it the larger part which is moved to external.. Otherwise i will need to go for the 500gig version + 2TB external hdd.

I couldn't do it. I use a micro sd card to expand my storage for apps and USB stick for other forms of storage.
