I'm new to the forums but I have been with android for a few years now.....probably since the beginning (but I'm not certain on that). I use android 2.3 on the samsung gravity smart and noticed that my apps, when the phone lacks the storage space, stores the app on the sd card and apparently the phone. Of course the fact that the sd card expands my storage space is awesome and I will never need an iphone for my music, or an ipod if storage space becomes large enough.

Question: where does all the data end up if android is splitting the app between the sd card and phone memory? I search around using the task manager and the app is on the sd since the phone memory is too small but the sum of data from what the phone says is in memory and on the sd card doesn't add up to the size of the app downloaded from the market.

Second, and more pertinent question: How does android store apps that the phone memory can't hold?
