Hi Adm/Mod,

I am installing avast av program on my newly acquired ALCATEL 918A phone. There is an option that ask whether to instal on "ROOTED" or "UNROOTED" phone. After reading a few threads on this forum I now have a fair understanding of what ROOTING means. My question is: HOW DO I GO ABOUT ROOTING, JAILBREAKING THE ANDROID SYSTEM ON THIS PHONE?

I wish to express my heart felt thanks to you and all other users of this Forum for your warm welcome as a Newbee. Actually, this is the first Forum I have ever found myself being part of and I am hoping that with time, I will be able to make some valuable contribution to the community.

I am a senior Hobbyist with several years experience with electronics and electronic related matters, however, I am now attempting to avail myself of some knowledge of software development.

I have absolutely no knowledge of the Android and related systems.

As a result of a lack of knowledge, some of my postings (questions) may seem frivolous or down right foolish. It is with this in mind, I beg your patience and understanding. I have seen cases where participants shy away from Forums because of hash and painful criticisms. However, my determination is to maintain a very warm and cordial relationship with this community and as such, a long lasting association.

Wasn't able to find the forum for the phone you posted, but, maybe you can using information I don't have, like, a better model name. If you can find that, you should be able to get some help on how to root your phone. Or you can try doing a forum search to see if you can find any previous posts or guides. If not, try posting in the General Help and How To forum to see if you can get someone to help you (you'll find me in there a lot ). Worst case, do a little Googling and see what you can come up with. Then if you run into issues, you can always come back and ask for help. Here is the forum I was speaking of.

That's great, this was my first forum that I became attached to, and, I have found it to be a great experience. I'm sure that in time, you'll know what you are doing, and be able to post and help out!! And, it's okay, we are all newbs eventually. I'll be a newb to rooting myself shorty (never done it!!).

It's okay, don't ever think that something you post is frivolous or foolish. Just follow the forum rules (http://forums.androidcentral.com/faq.php?faq=generalacrules#faq_acrules) and be the polite person that you clearly are and you'll fit right in. Well, I wouldn't shy away from AC if I were you. The Mods here are really great, and, they really help to make AC a great, friendly and helpful environment. I think you'll find this to be a great community.
