Extended battery in need of calibration?

I'm curious to know if there is anything special that needs to be done when going up to the extended battery. Is there some kind of calibration needed or will the battery meter just work right from the get go? Does it matter if the phone is rooted and ROMed?

Thanks.

I would treat it like a normal battery - condition it for a few days, bump charge it a few times, and use battery calibration only when flashing new roms.

doesnt matter if you're rooted or not as far as battery goes. at least not where conditioning is concerned.

OK, maybe I'm missing something but I've had my TB in use with the extended battery today and at 6pm it showed 51%. I reboot the phone and the battery level dropped to 36%. Am I missing something here? Could this be a defective battery? Could it be an issue with the ROM I'm running (Bamf 1.5)? It almost seems that the battery isn't communication properly with the phone.

Thanks for any insight.

This happens sometimes - battery doesnt show loss for periods of time, and or there is significant drop in battery after reboots.

My advice is not to worry abt it if the battery isnt showing the decrease, and to avoid reboots if you're low on juice.

Havent found a better answer to the battery not syncing up properly, but it happens only rarely on my device.

Edit i have the stock battery

Happens all the time with my extended battery. Have tried wiping battery stats many times to no avail. I have just learned to deal with it. If I want to see an accurate reading I restart my phone. In fact my extended battery always lags behind the meter. Never is accurate til after a reset. The more I work the cpu the faster the meter drifts.

Glad to hear that i'm not the only one experiencing this. I wonder if this is software issue that can be fixed with an update?

Thanks.

HTC has noted to VZW that there is a firmware issue on the Thunderbolt that not only causes errors/lags with battery readings, but also seems to decrease battery life even worse than a 1.4 Ah battery should be on such a device.

Now, we will be releasing a software update in the VERY near future, but do not expect it to fix battery problems. It is mainly to fix the errors with GPS reporting and SMS messages showing the IMEI number instead of your phone number.

For now, I would recommend a backup battery/extended battery, a portable recharger, and/or charging options until HTC fixes the issue.

OK, so this is a clear issue. Glad to see/read that HTC & VZN are aware of it. It's bad enough that I had to get the extended battery just to get use out of this phone and its features, but not having an accurate battery reading is another kick in the kernel!

Thanks for all the info.
