With all the talk or non-talk about the battery or extended battery or carrying an extra battery. Has anyone used or looked into the External Battery Pack and Charger like this one?

Amazon.com: New Trent iCruiser IMP1000 11000mAh External Battery Pack and Charger for iPad 2, ipad, iPhone 4 4G 3Gs 3G (AT&T and verizon) , iPod Touch (1G 2G 3G 4G), HTC Android EVO, Blackberry, Kindle DX, Samsung Galaxy S, Droid, Nintendo, Sony PSP

Seems to be more practical and additional uses vs. the extended battery or carrying an extra battery.

Any good or bad thoughts?
Thanks for all the help so far.

There is at least one person I've seen talk about it on here. Look through the accessories section. I know he likes it.

I have the smaller New Trent external battery pack and it works well. The one I have has a 5000 mAh capacity and I use it with both my Tbolt and my iPod touch. The one nit I have with the product is that it doesn't charge using a standard USB connection. If I had to do it over again I'd get one of the external batteries that charge using a standard USB cable.

I have the New Trent IMP8900, And I love it! I got it mostly for traveling on airplanes!
I have used it on airplanes, at the pool! I have 4 standard batteries I carry in my purse
to change out at work! I was using the New Trent alot before I got the extra
batteries! Now I use the New Trent just for traveling!! I just think it is easier
to change out the battery when I am working! But it is nice to get off an airplane
with a totally charged battery!

I also saw a solar powered external battery.
Not sure how well it works, but it's "green", I guess.
Might be useful to plug in for an emergency if I'm running low on juice, but don't have an outlet handy.
Would be cheaper to use than a wall charger.

Thanks I think I will pick one up to test. Nicer than the extended battery hump.
Unless there are different brands that anyone has also had good luck with.

I purchased 2 1500mah Chinese batteries and a charger where a battery fits in the back of it. It also has a usb out to actually charge the phone. I got it on ebay for $0.01 with $8.95 shipping, so for under $9 it was at my door in about 10 days. The batteries seem to be as good as stock. Just go to ebay and search HTC thunderbolt and you should see an unlimited amount of these auctions ending within a few min.

Only issue might be kickstand and thickness. That's why i was leaning towards the New trent external battery pack charger.

This is what I want. If they make one for the evo, maybe they'll make one for the Thunderbolt. I emailed them to ask, I'll let you know what I find out.

It used to say Thunderbolt coming soon. I dont see that on there anymore however. I hope it didnt change as this looked promising.

I know it's a new phone but this "coming soon" stuff is getting old. I guess I'll end up going with whatever comes out first. Either this or the good cases for the extended battery (which I currently use) like the seidio or otterbox.

I have a Lenmar PPU2400b. It was about $24. It is a nice compact unit that will give the Thunderbolt a couple of full charges per charge. It has a 2400MaHr battery in it. Very well made.

For grins, I bought one of these from ebay. It claims to have a 2600MaHr battery. I suspect it is more like an 1100MaHr battery and it just charges the Thunderbolt once. Luckily, it can be charged off of a USB port too, because I have had it on the sun for a few days and have not seen any increase in the built in battery gauge. It is a novelty, I expected that, but it was really cheap, around $10.

I camp, and carry a large solar panel rated at 1 watt. It charges a 12 volt gel battery, that I then use auto adapters with. At night I can then charge my smart phone. One full day of good sunlight (1 watt for maybe 7 hours) on that large solar panel will give me about one good charge on a smartphone (which has about a 6 watt hour battery).

I agree 100%. It would be nice to be able to protect our new purchase the first day we buy it. I dont like taking chances.

I got my answer, unfortunately.

Hello Michael

We currently do not have a PowerSkin that works with the HTC Thunderbolt,
but we are looking into it. Hopefully we will have one available in the
near future.

Thank you for your interest in PowerSkin.

New Trent IMP1000 Works Great with ThunderBolt

I bought the New Trent IMP1000, an 11000 mAh external battery pack, about 10 days ago. It can fully recharge the ThunderBolt's standard 1400 mAh battery more than 7 times on a single charge of the IMP1000. I have been trying it out since I got it, and it works great and has charged the ThunderBolt multiple times. It can also charge my iPod nano. It actually seems to charge the phone faster than the regular AC charger. It also shuts itself off automatically when the phone is fully charged. The IMP1000 has three indicator lights to let you know approximately how much of a charge it has remaining. The unit is elegant and relatively compact and comes with a nice felt drawstring travel pouch, but the pouch is not large enough to also contain the AC charging cord for the IMP1000. This high quality external battery pack should work perfectly to keep the ThunderBolt fully powered through a long international flight without using an extended internal battery or swapping batteries. I have also noticed that the standard battery lasts much longer when "Airplane" mode is used to shut down all of the phone's radios. My ThunderBolt was 99% charged when I started Airplane mode before turning in for the night. The next morning it was still at 99%.

Congrats on your purchase of the IMP1000. I have the exact same reasons as you on why I bought the same battery for my Tbolt. Hehe :D
