What is the best and fastest way to save pictures and video. Since Samsung is going the way of the iphone with no sd card slot is the OTG Cable as good or better option at transferring to SD Card? Seems I read somewhere that connecting phone to external HD device is a quicker way of storing pictures and Video.

I suspect they did away with SD Cards because at this point they are horrendously slow dated technology in comparison to other storage options. They aren't fast enough for modern cameras, the data transfer rate can't handle the higher frame rates and resolutions. Even way back on the S7 this was a thing.

Portable SSD plugged into the USB C port will be your fastest option to transfer files/photos off the phone.

?do you figure that the OTG cable with sd card attachment about same as sd slot in phone?

Something to keep in mind is with a microSD card the connection between the card itself and your phone (well if it had a microSD card slot) is always going to be faster than using an external USB-OTG cable/adapter. The former involves soldered connections and copper wiring (a.k.a. traces) that millimeters in length, the latter involves a connection with the USB bus in your phone, an external cable or adapter device, and then the USB storage media, a chain that inherently involves a much more involved, longer path for data packets to travel across.
As for claims that microSD cards are just too slow, yes they're relatively slower than NAND Flash media chips (internal storage media) but still their still faster than USB. Also, if you have a really slow card, it's most likely quite dated and given their cost it's time just buy a newer, faster, (and as long as your device supports it) higher capacity card.

??? You mentioned portable SSD what's a good brand and price range? I don't mind spending 100.00 to 150.00 for a 2 TB or more!

Are PORTABLE SSD'S a alot better option?

That depends on the SSD itself. One that's powered by the USB bus is going to completely dependent on the USB power your phone provides (there's just the one USB cable, there is no other cable), while a SSD that has its own separate power supply/adapter (two cables involved, one the USB data cable and the other being the power cable connected to the power supply) isn't as restricted. SSDs are in relatively low-power hard drives (not motors for spinning disks) so there is that. Also this depends on the phone model too. Phones with USB Type-C ports are generally more capable at supplying power to external devices than phones with microUSB ports. So portable SSDs 'might' be better compared to a microSD card, but that's very conditional and depends a lot on just how you use external storage media, your phone model, and the comparing the SSD drive and the microSD card specs.

I buy an SSD and a hard drive caddy usb 3 and I also get a usb 3 micro to usb c cable. That way I can make my own portable sad and it is low power. I use this to back up my phones and it is a much cheaper way of getting a portable sad than buying one pre packaged. You can buy all the parts from Amazon.
