External MIC with Google Pixel 2

[Android Central Question]

I would like to use an external MIC on my Pixel 2 to record sound rather than using the inbuilt MIC.

I have read on one thread that it is theoretically achievable using a 3rd party app as the native Google apps won't allow the use of an external MIC.

If this approach is an option, can anyone share what interfaces/jacks and apps they used to achieve this?

Bingo. Open Camera saves the day again. I abandoned all 3rd party camera apps because the native app is simple and produces amazing results.

Open Camera lets you pick "external mic". Tested it. It works! I'll use it when I need the mic.
