External output from new $50 Amazon Fire?

A friend has the new basic Fire tablet (the $50 one) and thinks he can output to his TV. I can do that from my phone (MHL port) but I don't believe his Fire will output with either an MHL or a micro-HDMI adapter.

I suggested if this is critical for him, return it and we can find him a tablet or phone for less than $100 (the price of the Fire 6 HD, which seems to have that capability).

Am I right? Are there any other options?

Thanks!

Maybe a fire stick or a Chromecast? I was able to add Google play to my wife's and download the Google cast app which works with all the normal apps except for the preloaded Amazon apps that I have found so far.

In all honesty I would rather invest in a Chromecast than the wires it takes to run directly to a TV. You can cast from where ever you are at instead of having to deal with cables and cords and it will be more future proof
