Well, not totally - I can read from it. All of a sudden, literally overnight, I can't write to it, delete or move anything or rename files on it. I now have an external 16 GB ROM card.

I sure hope that some of you fine people have some suggestions for me. It's a 16 GB SanDisk MicroSD HC card (1 yr old) and I've run some diagnostics on it. Every test says it's fine, so I have a hunch it must be something in the operating system that's the trouble. Still, since I've not made any changes or installed anything new for at least a month, I can't understand why the hell this happened.

Short of formatting th damned thing, I'm open to any and all suggestions. Eh... maybe except for an exorcism.

Thanks for the help (in advance)

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from AT&T - Model SAMSUNG -SM N900A - Android 4.4.2 with no plans to go to Lollipop in the near future.

The Android operating system can work with a lot of Apps. But I see (and maybe this is _my_ ignorance showing) one major shortcoming - there isn't a lot of utilities to answer questions such as yours.
I do have an app called "SD Insight" that should answer your question (when did the SD Card become "Read Only") but it does not.
Your problem should be a permission thing - some change has altered or nullified your permission(s) to access that SD Card. Is there an Android history log that records changes?

Thanks to both of you guys for your suggestions. I did some more digging and discovered that the CAMERA folder (and subfolders within) on the card are totally corrupted. All I can see in there is unreadable binary code. Even the folder name (s) are screwed up. Those are hundreds of pictures that have, of course, been backed up, so it's not a big deal.

So I'll run CHKDSK on it and see if I can fix it. If not, I guess it's time for a new (bigger) card ÷) Hehe.. You Bet!!

PS - I finally got brave and rooted my Samsung Note 3. I guess I waited for the right time, and I got it. Used TowelRoot and it took a grand total of 27 seconds for the entire process: adjust settings, root, download superSU, disable Knox & I didn't even need a computer. How awsome is that?

Now I'm going to un-bloat(ware) my phone, and it will be like new again. Titanium Backup here I come!

Hey ChuckCell & B. Diddy,

Thanx for your input guys. I finally got tired of effing with it, and I reformatted the card. Now everything works again as it should. I back my stuff religiously, so I only lost 2 days of assorted crap.

The first thing I did after fixing the problem was to back up ALL my data, including the system settings, with Titanium Backup. I also set up a regular schedule for automatic weekly backups.

Now I'm prepared for anything short of hardware failure.

Thanx again fellas. This place is awsome. A fine & friendly community helping each other and learning from peoples problems. I've learned a lot from reading this forum.
