External sd reader not recognized

On my galaxy s10 + , I connect an external sd reader (via the USB C port) and nothing happens. The light on the reader doesn't go on.
I have tested the reader on a S9 and it works.
The usb port works for charging my phone or to transfer data with SMARTSWITCH.
Help please.

Welcome to Android Central! Does the SD reader specifically have OTG built into the connector, or are you using an OTG adapter?

No it doesn't show up in my files app. And I dont use an OTG adapter; this card reader works perfectly on other phones like the S9.
