Exynos battery - Just not very good

Have had my Note 20 ultra a week or so. Battery was initially terrible but after some tweaking and the one UI 3 upgrade it did settle down.

The thing is though it still is not very good at all, burns through about 3-4% an hour just sitting idle and in use it drops quickly e.g. earlier I used it for less than 5 minutes, nothing strenuous just general apps and it dropped 4%. It is even losing 8-10% overnight when sat in flight mode.

It’s not like I am out much these days to really worry about battery too much but it has been a few years now (even with a Samsung) where I have felt the need to even think about battery life. Purchased through Amazon so I am seriously considering taking advantage of their generous returns policy!

How has yours been?

Putting all apps except a very select few into always deep sleep made a big positive difference to my battery life. And no drop in performance either, because the phone fires all apps up so quickly, even if they've been deep sleeping.

I just checked and it seems that some of the deep sleeping apps reset after the 3.0 upgrade.

Battery life is not terrible it’s just the first droid in a few years where the battery has got my attention.

Anecdotally things like watching video on Netflix are not bad at all, pretty good even but it seems to be general use where I am seeing noticeable drops along with standby.

I think the recent update to One UI 3 Android 11 does manage apps better, I get the odd notification that a list of apps that haven't been used in a while are being put to sleep, nice to see.

I had an Exynos dual sim model non 5G for a couple of weeks. Was ok screen on time, I'd lose about 0.5% at most battery per hour during standby at night. I also got about 7 to 8 hours SOT. I returned mine because it had a hardware fault whereby it would randomly restart even in safe mode.

I never had good battery life on any Samsung devices... Even my cheaper phones lasts longer than my Flagship Samsung Phones. The cause is Exynos i guess.

I do not have a Note device, but my S10 does a similar drain overnight. I wonder if this is a Samsung thing? Who knows. But my phone will get my through the work day easily, so that the main thing. Also, I usually charge at night or right when I wake up, so I try not to worry about overnight drain too much.

Man, that's good point you raised there. My 170$ Moto G power according to GSAM does 8 plus hours of screen on time and yields me 2 to 3 days if not more of battery.

my Poco X3 NFC with 5160mAh battery and same usage can last way longer than my previous 5000mAh S20U and my current N20U with 4500mAh...the only phone i ever used which will be able to blow the X3 NFC is Huawei devices with Kirin...

the problem with Exynos is the antena. They seem to have trouble looking for signal.

I had the N20 Ultra Exynos version from Samsung UK but sent that back due to connectivity issues and buy that was a farce getting the money back !

I then imported the Snapdragon N20 Ultra using WondaMobile and this phone excells.
