I know its apples to oranges because the architectures and OS and all that fun stuff. What is the closest desktop CPU that can compare to the new exynos? An e6300? The old Pentium D's?

It's really hard to say. I know that later this year Qualcomm is releasing the quad-core Krait, which will be used in some tablets to power Windows on Arm.

I will say this. Just about any desktop CPU will run circles around these ARM chips in pure raw power. A decent comparison would be Intel's Medfield SoC. It's loosely based on Atom, and is decidedly midrange in performance. It's also single core, with hyperthreading. That's the closest we'll get to a direct comparison I think.

What about gaming potential? Being that my note is 1280x800 and I have no problems running games what could my phone in total compare to? A FX5200?

nvidia says the tegra 3 compares roughly to ps2. no idea what gpu is in this, but it'll probably be similar.
