When I first got my Huawei P30 pro I tried repeatedly to set up the face ID. It simply didn't work. Maybe the phone, maybe my face, whatever. Didn't work so I forgot about it. After the last update, to 10.0.0.186, I decided to do it again. The process was obviously different and now the face ID works.
So, if it hasn't worked for you and you've updated, you might try it again.
As a refugee from Pixel I really don't like EMUI but I really enjoy the camera.
