Facebook app battery drain

I was diagnosing battery usage on my Galaxy and after experimenting with a lot of different options, I noticed that uninstalling the Facebook app had a large effect on my idle battery usage. I am currently using Friendcaster and I'm very satisfied with the idle drain of 4% over 3 hours. Of course the rest of the settings are pretty agressive as well.
Can anyone reproduce my observations?

Friendcaster actually uses Facebook app for messages... I deleted it because I ended up running both....

I totally agree with the original post. I found the FB for Android app to be both a batter vampire, as well as being buggy and inconsistent in providing notifications. I completely uninstalled the FB app and have been very satisfied with FriendCaster for the past month. I believe FriendCaster is a lot better on the battery, the interface and options are superior, and the notifications are consistently working.

As for the second post... While I can't say with 100% certainty, I don't believe I have any component of the FB for Android app running and/or remaining in my phone. I solely use FriendCaster, which incorporates my FB Messages. I also have the FriendCaster FB Chat add-on, which is a separate download, but I rarely use it.

Bottom Line... I recommend uninstalling the FB for Android app and going with FriendCaster exclusively for your Facebook needs on Android phones.

Do you have your contacts pics synced? Will you look in settings and see if there is an option for where to go when checking messages? I think it gives options of the fb app, mobile site or Friendcaster..

I wonder if this is what's killing my battery. My battery has been draining much to quick while in sleep mode. If I erase FB from my phone will my contacts stay in place (Facebook friends).

If you want to check Facebook out as the culprit, turn sync down to once per day, open the app, go to chat, press menu, and logout of chat. You can leave the app running in the background. I see no noticeable drain from the app after doing this.

1. Yes, FriendCaster properly syncs all my FB Contacts and their associated pictures. You can also use the "Join" function within the contacts App to connect FB contact info with other (i.e.: Exchange) contact info.

2. FB Messages: From the main graphic FC menu, one of the 9 optional buttons on page 1 is "Messages". This is where I view and reply to my FB messages. FC also provides me with a separate notification for new messages (and events), which is a different icon from the standard posting notification. Works well. --- I see no additional settings options for Messages within FrienCaster.

Simply logging out of FB chat solved my battery drain issues with facebook. I tested this overnight by not charging my battery and the results were favorable.
