Facebook app - battery hog!

Running the latest version (1.9.3 I think) of the FB app on my GSM GNex. It appears to be quite random in battery usage, but when I saw it sucking 29% this morning on the battery usage panel, that was the last straw. Uninstalled.

WTF is wrong with the FB app that makes it suck so much battery?

I had the refresh set to "Never". I turned off all location services (messenger, nearby friends, etc). Logged out of chat/messenger.

Some days, it would not even register on the battery usage panel, most days though between 7-14%. Today was like 29% and I hadn't even used it. For some reason, it runs in the background. Showed like 30sec cpu foreground, but like 33 min cpu total. Wtf??

I've had it with this poorly written/coded app. There's been like 4 updates in the past couple weeks alone, yet it doesn't get better. We'll see if the 'Report' button (when you click an app in the battery panel) does anything.

Since the web app is running pretty good, that's what I'll use. I have a shorcut on my homescreen, so it's almost like using the app. Just a tad slower.

I never bothered downloading the Facebook app. Its always seemed to run faster using a browser than the app itself. Even with every update that says it improved performance, I never noticed it being faster.

that's what I'm realizing - the web app is a better option for now. maybe always will be. whoever the developers are for the android version of FB, need to go talk to the iOS developers, because the android version sucks ass.

As far as I can tell (using my iPad and my Android phone), the iOS and Android versions are pretty much the same. The iOS version is just as bad. It's got a 2 star average rating. Here's a nice writeup on why it's so bad, but although it deals with the iOS app specifically, I suspect much the Android version suffers from the same technical problems). It probably doesn't help that Facebook changes things on a daily basis.

Of course, the app is tons better than it was when it first released. The latest version is noticeably faster (although still slow comparatively).

The same happens to me. It sucks my battery as soon as I start running the app, but if I never open it, it doesn't suck anything (only "ass") in my case.

And notifications never worked. Can't they make them PUSH?
