Facebook for Android vs. Facebook for HTC Sync Problems

I know this has been discussed and I kind of get it. I have all my People contacts the way I want it and everything however I do NOT want FB friends that I don't really care about in my calendar telling me about their birthday! What the hell. Can I just get rid of all that and keep everything else as is?

You sure can, cowboy. Go in to your calendar, then menu, more, calendars, and uncheck Facebook. My calendar went from an entry seemly every day to only a few things. Strangely, my phone felt lighter

How about removing the 500 some odd contacts it adds as well? With out having to go through and delete each one?

Sorry...Hello everyone! Be browsing the forum for about 4 months now waiting on my upgrade, and a phone I liked(which was the TB). I have learned TONS from you guys and appreciate all the knowledge.

So have (3) contacts that were sadly added when my accts were added and sycned. Tried for roughly 2 hours to long hold and go into there profiles under "Contacts" there is no option to delete FB ones. How do I get these off my phone besides having to delete my FB and start over if that even works? Your contacts should all interact similar when they are added to your "Phone" contacts I mean deleting them my phonebook so to speak isn't removing them from FB so why are they locked out from being deleted currently?

Second very annoying thing is even when under your "Contacts" you only show like Gmail or just Phone contacts. When you open the phone dial pad and hit a number it searches through FB contacts when by all means to my knowledge I have asked my phone to NOT search for anything in search settings and my "Visable" contacts are suppose to be ONLY my phone contacts which list NONE of my FB (3) contacts that are stupidly sycned atm.

So talked to HTC tech support yesterday and this is in detail what they said to me. First you need to imagine that you have (4) seperate parts to your contacts saved to your phone.

1) Google Search - You can choose what is searchable
2) Accts & Sync - You choose what is synced with your Accts
3) People - Your contact list and you can make things "unviewable"
4) Phone - Uses multiple features to help you search contacts when making calls

So that being said if you EVER during duration of your phone Sync "Facebook for HTC Sense" Sync contacts they will be so to speak searchable when you pull up your "Phone" tab. They are intergrated into sense ui and you CAN not manual change this or "view" them in people window and delete them.

HTC gave (3) seperate options to attempt and remove them from showing up if you have SYNCED them accidently or upon setting up your phone for first time.

1) Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Manage Applications then select "All" and scroll down to "Dialer Storage" and you can "Clear data" WARNING They stated this will also delete all your text messages.

2) If that doesn't work next step is to remove from Accts & Sync your Facebook for HTC Sense acct and add it again with making sure to uncheck the "Sync Contacts"

3) Last and obviously not most desirably options is Factory reset and start from scratch.

They explained they work their best with creators of these applications to intergrate the features into multiple parts of the phone, but the downfall in this case is sometimes you don't wish to see these features and feel you have disabled them and sadly they are baked into more then just one section and can't truly be disabled unless removed or never used from the start.

I hope this makes sense since I wrote this all down while on phone for over an hour trying to better understand this.

yeah, i had to deselect Facebook off of my calendar too. I wish there was an option just to remove the birthdays. Would like to have the things I said I'm attending still on my calendar.

@iLLusive thanks for the info, I was just about to call HTC about the Phone Dialer stuff. This is a pain in the ass! Now I cant sync my Facebook to my contacts since they have a glitch/bug in there program.

What to do....Sigh

Hi, I just got the HTC EVO shift and found all of my FB contacts synched. (I didnt realize it synched all of them, I thought I was just synching those that were in my contact list) URGH.
My carrier told me I had to factory reset my phone to get them off but I'd lose all my contacts. I could back them up to gmail but all my FB contacts would go there too.(not what I want) Also, I now have duplicate contacts because of FB sync.
(Please bear with me, I have never had an Android phone before so I'm going to have a lot of questions).
So, if i want to remove all of my FB contacts (not my normal contacts) from my the FB section of "people", I need to follow your instructions iLLusive.
Ok...tried step 1: I don't have "Dialer Storage" (possibly cos ya'll are talking about EVO, not EVO shift?)
Step 2:Removing HTC Sense and add it again. How would I add it again if I did that. (little worried about the "bug" am4966 referenced though)
If I did re-add HTC Sense, if I uncheck sync contacts, does that mean 1) I won't me able to sync any contacts to FB? 2) Is there any way I can sync only those in my contact list to facebook and not get everyone from my FB on my phone?
Any help and step by step directions would be greatly appreciated. All I want is for my contacts be synced to FB, and that's it. I dont' need all of my FB friends taking up space on my phone.
Also, whats the difference between the FB that came already bookmarked, the FriendStream and the FB Widget (which I didn't put on)
