Ok so i usually only use the market version of facebook and its set NOT to sync anything to my contacts and it does exactly how i ask.

the other day i tried hooking facebook for HTC sense and obviously we all know the **** storm that follows that. I know u can unclick it from the "People" app but the problem is when i compose a text message im getting facebook contacts, along with their number showing up that arent part of my gmail contacts at all. i removed facebook for htc sense from my accounts so it should be gone but there are "traces" of it left. any suggestions on getting rid of this?

Sorry Dan I gave up on trying to figure out how to remove HTC Facebook contacts, I think my situation is a bit different from yours let me explain, when I log into FB it will ask me if I want to Sync my contact to my phone even though I say no the contacts will be there, I see all sorts of phone numbers from people I don't speak to as much, it is driving me crazy I even have in my setting that FB is not supposed to Sync sometimes when I check my phone settings it will be checked, I have to constantly go to my phone setting to make sure that it is not checked, I also delete the contacts from my phone list but as you stated they appear again *sighs* Sorry I couldn't help but thank you for this post maybe someone has a solution.

You basically need to wipe your phone and re-add the Gmail account that has your contacts stored in it. There is a way around without having to wipe out your entire phone.

If you're using the Friends Widget.. delete it from the screen. Go into Accounts & Sync and delete Facebook for HTC. Also delete the Facebook market app from Manage Applications if you're using it.

Delete your Gmail contacts... don't worry they can be restored from your account for up to 30 days. If you want you can even export them as a csv file to your computer and then import them back.
From your phone.. go to Contacts.. Menu.. Delete.. Menu.. Select all.. Delete.
Or
From your browser.. log into your Gmail account.. Contacts.. Select all.. More actions.. Delete.

* This is for contacts stored in your Gmail account only. If you have contacts stored somewhere else, then you need to back those up some other way*

After all Facebook accounts are removed, Friends widget and contacts have been removed... you can now start adding them back.

First reboot your phone:
Login to Gmail from your browser and go to your contacts... More Actions.. Restore contacts.
Guide: Restore contacts - Gmail Help
On your phone.. go to Accounts & Sync.. Gmail account.. Sync contacts. Your contacts should now be back on the phone.

If you decide to use the Facebook app (not the HTC FB)... when you download the app and set up your account.. make sure you don't have sync contacts turned on. Check in Accounts & Sync and also within the app. Open FB app.. Menu.. Settings.. if there's an option for syncing contacts to the phone.. turn it off.

Hi Cyber,

Thank you so much, I have been dealing with this for so long. I appreciate the help. I thought FB for HTC was incorporated in the phone and I couldn't delete it.

You can try removing just the Facebook accounts but some people still experience problems with a few coming back.. that's why I suggest removing everything including the gmail contacts. If your gmail contacts are linked with the account used to set up the phone... It can not be deleted. Try it.. go to Accounts & Sync and delete the gmail account that was used to set up the phone. It will ask if you would like to delete... you can hit yes but you will receive a message telling you the account can't be removed. The only way to physically delete that account is by factory resetting the phone.
