Hello all,
I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this thread. I have tested using my roommate's Galaxy S9 and determined that the problem was not present on his device, so I wasn't sure if this should be in the "Facebook" app area or the "Pixel 2" area. If it is in the wrong place please either move it or let me know and I will remake it.
Anyway, to the problem itself...
Using a Pixel 2 XL.
Recently, probably since Android 9, I have noticed a strange annoyance with the Facebook Messenger app. In the past I had set my phone's default ringtone/notification sounds in the general phone settings and then directed other apps, primarily Facebook messenger, to use the phone's default for both these settings.
Recently however, the setting for the notification sound in the Facebook Messenger app is not saving when the app is fully closed. This is happening when the phone is restarted, if the app is "forced closed," or even if it is "swiped away" when viewing open apps. The setting is always reset to the default "Messenger" notification sound. A few additional details:
1) The setting is only reset when the phone "Default" option is selected. If I select one of the built in Messenger sounds, or even a custom sound directly, the setting persists through restarts.
2) The setting for the ring tone in the Messenger app does not get reset, even though it is using the phone "Default" option.
Below are 2 images. The first is the setting prior to the app closing, the second is the setting after the app closing and being reopened.
Before Restart:

After Restart:

If anyone has ever experienced this or has any idea as to why it is happening it would be appreciated. The main reason I prefer having the sound set up this way is to allow me to set the phone's default notification sound as "none" while still having the ring tone volume on. I need the ability to hear my phone ringing at work but don't need notification sound. This lets the phone ring but notifications only vibrate. If anyone has another way of accomplishing this, that would also be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
