Facebook Messenger stickers in my Gallery?!

I have a Droid Maxx2. I have verified it is the Facebook Messenger stickers showing up in my (photo) Gallery, and not by my choice.

Note: Save Photos, as well as Save & Capture are both OFF already in the Facebook Messenger app.

I have deleted all the extra stickers, and am left with the basic stickers that come with the Messenger app when downloaded.

I just deleted the Google Photos app, the Facebook Messenger app, the (photo) Gallery, the device cache, and then reloaded each item one at a time.

The only things I was able to do are these:
Decrease the number of images that appear in the (photo) Gallery; determine that it is EITHER the Facebook Messenger app putting the images in the Gallery (it happens when I click on or use an image in the FBM app) or the Google Photos app (it happens when I simply open it); and determine that I am only able to delete the images one by one in the Gallery or the Google Photos.

I have ALREADY read all the other threads re this, and none of the other solutions apply.
It is either the Google Photos app or the FB Messenger app causing it, but I wish to continue using both (for simple photos and messaging only, not for texts).

I do want to use stickers in the FBM app, as well.

I do not want the Gallery and Google Photos flooded with unwanted images. This has been happening for over a month, now.

Please help....if you can.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if any of this will work for me, but I'm really glad I'm not alone. I'll have to wait until it happens again and try some of the suggestions I've read.

If I do try to report it to Facebook, what exactly do I need to tell them is happening? I'm not sure how to explain it.

I ran into the same problem, and I think I found a solution that actually works. After deleting all of the stickers from both messenger and from my photos, I went to the app permissions for Messenger. There I turned off the permission for "storage." I was able to then re download the stickers onto the app without the previews showing up in my gallery. However, this also prevents messenger from being able to access your camera and photos.

Welcome to Android Central! This is usually because the app developer neglected to add a ".nomedia" file in the directory where those images are being saved. ".nomedia" instructs the system to ignore that directory when scanning for images to add to the gallery database.

If you know which directory those images are in, use a file manager app to add a blank file and call it ".nomedia" (without the quotes). Then see if the images disappear from the gallery apps.

Thanks. This annoyance just started happening to my album like a week or two ago and even after I deleted the 200 plus stickers.. They would reappear the next day so I did what you said..I plugged my USB cord into my laptop/phone.. Located the folder these stickers are saving in.. And created the .nomedia folder and they seem to be gone for now. I keep checking and don't see them at least. But this was just yesterday I did it. Also had the same issue with WhatsApp and did the same thing but I do see they have an option to not save the media in their app.

Just find the folder that they are saving in and create the .nomedia folder. They should stop saving to your phone's photo gallery. But I'm not sure. I'm using Galaxy note 8. So far I haven't seen any in mine. Keeping my fingers crossed it worked bc I hate opening my gallery and finding 200 plus Facebook stickers! I kept thinking where in the hell did these come from?!?

Well, I have the same issue and read the entire thread and tried to grasp what to do. This is insane having these stickers filling up my gallery randomly along with screen shots of games I play etc. even in video form!

I plugged in my phone via USB to my laptop. Created a .nomedia file and then got lost!

Discovered in search for .nomedia files under Galaxy S8 phone, 10 files with different dates for .nomedia!!? Starting in December 2017 through today.

I do not understand where I am supposed to place that file on my phone. Please help me. I do not want to make matters worse. Thanks.

First of all there is no .nomedia file where the stickers are located. I tried renaming the file .stickers. Didn't work. Invalid filename. Same thing when trying to create a .nomedia folder. I also do not see any option for creating a blank file and naming it .nomedia. In the end I just deleted the stupid stickers folder. Waiting to see you now if Messenger recreates it. But so far the stickers are gone from the gallery. If all else fails take the albums you most want to see in your gallery and declare them favorites. Those albums will be above the stickers and thus easier to access.

The stickers are showing up in your Gallery app because Facebook forgot to put the ".nomedia" file in the folder with the stickers.

Wrong solution. Using a file browser app or text editor (not word processor), create an empty file called ".nomedia".

See above.

It is expected that Facebook will recreate the folder, still missing the ".nomedia" file.

Okay thanks that worked. Even though I've written HTML code on the PC, I was unfamiliar with using a text editor on the phone. I downloaded a text editor app and within a short time was able to add the blank .nomedia file. The stickers were in two different folders. One containing the smiley variations and the other containing the cat variations. So had to create that blank .nomedia file in both places. Rebooted the phone and the first time I checked the gallery the stickers were still there. Opened the gallery again and suddenly the stickers disappeared so it worked.
