would a factory reset help the battery life issues at all? this is what the verizon rep was trying to do to my cell since i was very upset witht he battery life.

Getting rid of the backup assistant I'm sure will improve it slightly because it's one less service running in the background that's backing up your contacts every day, which Google already does for you. So you're essentially do the same thing twice every day and you don't need to. I'd recommend doing it just to skip that setup.

Correct, but it doesn't delete the application. It just isn't setup so it isn't running in the background.

Just the homescreens after the apps redownload. Your wifi settings and sound settings I believe will be backed up Settings > Privacy. You'll see the settings and they should have check marks in them.
