Factory installed apps not being monitored by the market?

I'm new to android (old iphone user) and I'm loving it. One thing I can't seem to figure out is updating of factory installed apps. The market does not indicate updates for these apps, but if I search for a specific app it'll show an update is available. I have updated a few (facebook and gmail) but it would be tedious to monitor all factory installed apps.

Is this normal? Should I not update them?

Is there a way for the market to manage them?

I think that's with just a couple of apps. Like Google's voice search. There is no way to force that. Not a big deal though. Its not major apps that would make a crazy difference.
