Factory Reset after Lollipop

Just throwing this out there for those who have had horrible battery issues - I did a factory reset last night after trying everything to fix the problem without doing the reset. I backed up all my info to Kies and restored it after the phone was wiped.

I have been on my phone most of the morning doing work emails, etc. Battery has only dropped to 87% and I have been using it strong for 2.5 hours. Now, it may take a huge turn for the worse as the day goes on, but we will see.

I would strongly suggest doing this for those having issues. It's a little time consuming, but well worth it if it holds up throughout the day.

I had the same experience. Took most if a Saturday morning to get everything back to the way I want it. But, certainly it made a tremendous difference.

I have to agree to a point. Doing the factory reset fixed the horrible lag and locking up I was getting post LP.
But I am not seeing anywhere near the battery life you are.
I still get the pop up saying contacts has stopped.

I went from an S3, to a Note 3, that my wife has now, (she loves it) to the S4, and now the S5.
I hate this phone, lol :(

I am partial to Samsung, because I am used to their ecosystem. My first android was the Droid, which was a damn good phone for its time. ( I still have it, now on PagePlus as my burner, lol)

But, is there anything better without going to the Note 4? ( just a little too big for my liking, but I could live with it ) Will the S6 get back to being a solid, get the job done phone like my S3 and Note 3 were?

OK, I have vented..sorry to trample on your thread tdhawks :)

I spent most of the night on it as well trying to get it back to the layout I previously had it. Wife wasn't too happy with me...oh well.

Did your battery hold up all day after the reset compared to before?

Is everyone talking about 5.0?
Since mine is still on 4.4.2 I take it I shouldn't even consider upgrading?

no, I am not getting near a full day.
The reset did fix the overheating issue. and the speed is back.
The setting it all back up is why a suffered for a week before doing it, lol
I read one post that said "just rip off the bandaid and get it over with" , so true!!

:(

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I was sitting next to a Google employee on a flight from Seattle to Detroit. His S5 had 5.01 on it, and said that Google knew there were issues, and 5.01 was much better.
IMHO, I would wait.
But having said that, you will read post here of people that upgraded to 5.0 and love it, no issues.

THNX Terry, my phone is running tip top right now, no issues, long battery life, no unwanted aps.

I'm gonna wait till some sort of fix is announced or later.

My phone was a little laggy after the update. But what is annoying me is occasionally when I turn the screen on, the contacts screen will show up. Never did this before 5.0. I figured a factory reset would help, but it still does it. It's not a huge problem, happens infrequently. But it's definitely a bug with lollipop. I'm on tmobile btw.

I'm considering an S5 for my upgrade from the Note 2. I've had no issues with my Note.
Has the complete Factory Wipe/Reset fixed most of your guy's issues with Lollipop on your S5?

Are you with Verizon? okay I just looked at your signature you are with Verizon ;)
if you're buying a new S5 then it will be pretty much factory data reset as it has never been used just upgrade and then clear the cache and see how it runs. it should be fine if not then do a factory data reset.

Please forgive my ignorance...but this is my 1st android device. So before I do a factory reset (which I am not wanting to do but know I need to) I need to backup my phone info...but where? With my iPhones obviously it was in iTunes...when I hook my S5 to my computer it just downloads my pictures. Again, sorry...I'm not all that tech savy.

I guess my real question is lollipop the culprit for a lot of the issues people are posting here, or is lollipop fine as long as it's a fresh install?

Most of it seems to be cellular company's screwing with lollipop. I run stock lollipop on my 2 nexus 7's & my nexus 9 with no issues for the most part :)
My sprint S5 is pretty darn solid running lollipop too.
Verizon just seems to have had big issues with their tinkering around with lollipop...

Edit, to be fair I'd say its 65% cellular company's
35% lollipop...
