I want to do a factory reset to the phone because it has started acting a little crazy(wish I could do that with my kids). I am rooted and have a custom recovery installed. Should I remove these two thing or when I do a factory reset it will take care of everything. I also want to update to the latest Verizon update, which has been bothering me for about 2 months now. Is there a root option for the latest update?

Here is a counter suggestion: in your custom recovery clear the cache instead. Oftentimes that helps out a lot, and you don't have to set your device up all over again.

As for the update, I would make sure there is a root method for it before going any further. You would have to fully unroot (should be possible to do in your superuser app) then accept the update. I have seen several instances where even fully unrooting does not allow an update to happen. (more an FYI)

Another option is to flash a stock based custom ROM. You should be able to find them over on XDA. Developers for these kind of ROMs often keep theirs updated, but they have to wait for the stock to drop in order to update their own version. A factory reset is usually required to do this.

If you go the custom ROM route, make a backup in your custom recovery first.
