Okay...sorry to sound dumb...but I have read that if/when I update to GB I need to do a factory reset.

WHAT exactly is a reset?

Will I lose everything? My contact list? My apps?

HOW do I do a factory reset?

Do I do it before or after I update.

Again, sorry for my ignorance...I just want to know exactly what I am doing before I do it. I would be very upset if I screwed up my Evo!!

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!

First you will lose everything. Your contacts should be saved with your Google account. In Settings>Privacy. You can select backup and auto restore so all the apps you have downloaded will be restored automatically. Any saved defaults within that app will be be restored but all apps will be back. For SMS there are a few apps on the market that can back them up for you. Lastly you will do this after the new download is complete.

I just looked at my gmail acct (which i never really use) and only 3 out of my hundreds of contacts are there :(
Is there some way to sync them?
And then, after a reset, how to i get them back to my phone?

When you get the update and after you factory reset, go back and hit Import from SD.

FYI, none of my apps or settings got saved using the backup and auto restore option. Contacts, etc were saved via SD card.

So this is just putting them on a mem card...not gmail, right? Is there a way to sync it with gmail?

Right, they are going to your SD card so they will always be on there. Now as for a "easy" way to make them Google contacts I'm not sure.

Yes this is actually true, I looked into it, it's actually completely opposite of what I said. The backup and restore is the actual application data, you just have to redownload the apps, but your settings will be restored.

PS I'm rooted so that's why I mistaken the apps to restore themselfs.
