Factory Reset

Okay, so I just did one of my factory resets. I had switched off the google back up garbage, but wonders never cease, my old apps begin reinstalling after the reset is done.

Verizon is telling me the only to stop this is to manually uninstall each application via the market place. Talk about ridiculous.

Does anyone know of a work around for this? Is there is a place to send comments to Google too?

There is a thread in here (the X section of the forum) that has the word "Bingo" in it's title. It's something about Bingo...I finally figured out how to get Froyo working on the X. It describes in detail how to do a factory reset in such a way that will NOT restore anything to your phone. At least, that's how I remember it.

Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.

1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy

2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone

3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information

4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"

5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.

This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues.

Also, after the FDReset, make SURE you don't install the Vz Auto Update for your contacts. Vz keeps a list on its website and any changes you make via Gmail contacts don't necessarily register on the Vz list. You end up with tons of links, many of them to old or deleted data. Just skip the install offer when it shows up.

Fix: Go to Vz My Verizon for your account, DELETE ALL contact info there (don't panic - your contact list is still in Gmail unscathed). You will have to check that My Vz list periodically to make sure it's empty of contact data.

I have chosen not to really use anything that Verizon has to offer in terms backing up things, or using their contact back up and such.

The "Bingo" sticky thread is great. That is what I used when I did my own FDR to clean up my ultra-zapped contacts. Step-by-step. Excellent! Rr
