"Fast charging" not so fast?

I'm a little concerned with the speed my 5X has been charging. It seems no faster (and may even be slower) than the year and a half old Galaxy S5 that it replaced. This morning for example, I plugged the phone in before I jumped in the shower and started getting ready for work. It was at about 85%, maybe a little less. It sat on the charger, untouched, for 30-40 minutes and couldn't make it to 100% before I had to leave for work. Granted it came pretty close, but that just doesn't seem quite right to me.

I'm going to try to be more methodical about this over the next few days, maybe keeping a log of how long it actually takes to fully charge each time. In the meantime, what kind of charging times have you all been experiencing? I just want to find out if I got a lemon because so far I haven't been impressed with the "fast charging" on this phone.

It's probably the way rapid charge is designed. I remember on my Samsung S6, from 1-5% it would charge up to about 40-50% within like 20 min after that to get to 80% took about 30 min and from 80%-100% about another 30 min. I tested it out a few times. This might be the case here. I think it slows down when its almost fully charged.

Fast charging only charges when quickly the battery is low. The charge rate slows down to normal speeds when it approaches full

on both the OEM and an after market car charger, i get about 1.25% of battery increase per minute

I use the OEM charger and legacy 2.1A chargers. The OEM charger works much faster.
