I've had the same problem twice! The USB socket gradually became loose and wobbly. After six weeks or so it wouldn't charge or connect to my computer. It wasn't the cable but turned out to be the socket at the bottom of the device. I took it back to PC world in Bath UK and they replaced the device.
After four weeks of [ very careful ] use exactly the same thing happened . Back to PC world again today. This time they said it had to be sent back to Asus to be looked at . I [politely] kicked up a bit of a fuss, they didn't seem too interested in what i had to say but offered to let me ring Asus from the shop. Of course i couldn't get past their automated switchboard though i pushed all the right buttons and after a while a whole bunch of random ones like sales , components but it all led back to the same recorded message. Has anybody else had this problem? Do they have any human customer service at all ?
I have to say i wouldn't recommend the Nexus 7 to anyone...or PC World for that matter as they were a bit crap.. Pretty pointless buying something locally if they won't at least try to help.
Not expecting to see my Nexus 7 for a while but i promise to eat my words if they fix it and send it back. Will keep you informed. !
