Favorite Contacts in Messages

I switched from the Samsung Text Message app to Google Messages on my S24 Ultra on AT&T.

On the Samsung app, the three contacts I used most frequently and had favorited would appear at the top of the contacts list.

Is there a way to have these three contacts also appear at the top of the contacts list in the Google message app?

Hi!

What I do is:

• Select the contact conversation I want to pin (like T-mobile in my screenshot)
• Then select the push pin at the top of the screen, which appears after selecting the contact.
• That conversation will stay at the top of the main message screen under any previously pinned conversations.

If I decide I don't need them pinned anymore, then the same procedure applies to unpin them & the contact conversation moves back into position.

I do this for messages I still need to respond to.

If there are other methods someone will post them. That's just how I handle it.
😄

So just a couple of things.

@zigpeters Let us know if BerryBubble's solution works for you. The way you said it, to me, sounded like what you're talking about isn't the top of the message threads but in another view of some kind. If so, please describe that view.

@BerryBubbles it took me a bit to figure out how you were getting this view. Initially I thought, Oh what a good idea, and then I started adding pins. It looks like you can have up to ten, and I would have 8 in just the 3 people I message the most because of the different combinations of them that I use. Then I'm not sure I would like my new messages coming in other than the top of the list. Well and especially if my list ends up being 10 deep. I haven't undone it, so that I can see what it would be like to actually get a message in this configuration but I'm not feeling it so far.

@VidJunky

I definitely understand what you are saying. Too many pins could possibly negate the usefulness of the feature. Your new threads could get buried.

All my pins are temporary. I use pins as reminders. I rarely have more than 2 & the majority of the time I don't have any. The only pin I have at the moment is an alert, 'Your new credit card statement is available'. Lucky me!!

Thank you both for your thoughtful and detailed responses. I understand the workaround, and I plan to try it. However, I was hoping for a more simple solution, where my three favorite contacts would always appear at the top of the contacts list, and the most recent message I received would always appear at the top.

Someone still may come in with another option that's closer to what you're trying to achieve.

The pin option in Google messages works just like Samsung messages pin to the top your favorite and new messages will go under those
