Favorite/most stable Rom/Kernal combos

So I'll probably get a different answer from each person, and this probably should be a poll, but I don't know where to begin with choices. So what are you favorites? I'm actually looking for the most stable. Yeah, I'd love it to look cool or have some cool feature, but frankly I just need it to work, all the time, effortlessly. I don't care about my phone being faster at the sake of losing GPS capability, etc. Really the only reason I even root it is to remove stock apps, allow tethering (without paying sprint for it, eff you sprint, really), and get better battery life.

I've tried a half dozen different combos and it's time for a clean wipe and rom and kernal, so let's hear em. Favorites and why.

Full stock EC05 has been very good to me. I ODIN'd the stock tar right off the bat. I then ODIN the Clockwork Purple and install the su.zip file. Follow that with getting rid of the stock apps you don't use, and you should have a very stable and quick device.

I've played around with different kernels too, with mixed results on each one. I kept going back to Twilight Zone, it just seemed to work best for me. But I mainly used it to gain OC ability and go to 1.3ghz, just because I could...

I've found the GB leaks to be nearly rock solid, and you should have no problem at all if you're in a solid sprint area. If you frequent areas where signal gets low or bounces to roaming a lot, stay away from the GB leaks, although the EG22 has not crashed on me yet (could be because Sprint replaced my airave the same day EG22 leaked, so I don't have poor signal at home anymore).

Clockwork Purple? You're the third reference to that I've seen on a board but never actually seen anything on that, just people mentioning it. And What is the su.zip file?

I've steered clear of any GB leaks so far because I do end up in areas with low signal, and it always seems that, that and GPS are issues with almost all the GB leaks I come across. I figure I'm better off just waiting. It doesn't seem like it boosts performance enough to be worth my phone not working well as a phone...if I wanted that I'd get an iPhone on ATT lol.

ClockworkMod Purple is something like version 3.1.0.1 They dub it "Purple" since all the text was changed to, well, purple since the previous 2.5 or whatever it was (the text was orange or yellow, it's been a while!). SU.zip is used if you want to root, but used ODIN to push cwm3.1.0.1.tar (clockwork recovery) to an otherwise stock phone. Once in recovery mode, you can install su.zip and you're rooted. This method works with both 2.2 and 2.3. The oneclick that we use for root that installs recovery and su, does NOT work on 2.3 GB.

So all of a sudden my phone hates CWM Orange. I'm going to try purple in a second. But I've tried 4 different times now.

Odin to stock eco5

OCR CWM3 Orange

Stuck at the samsung boot screen each time. I've even tried downloading the zip again, unpacking it and doing that thinking maybe my file got corrupted. Nothing is working though. Wish me luck with purple or I guess I'll be staying stock until I figure something else out, or try Bonsai or something.

I'm an idiot. Total idiot.

You can't reboot until you install a new rom after you convert to ext4. OOPS.

Let that be a lesson to everyone else as well.

Are you kidding me? You are far from an idiot. I guarantee almost everyone here has made that same mistake once or twice. Another good one is not flashing a kernel or flashing a rom without a kernel after converting into ext4 and not being able to figure out why your stuck at the samsung screen or bootlooping.

If you like the stock look plus stability I recommend Chris41g's EC05 plus with Genocide 2.0.

Haha, thanks for helping keep my ego in tact. The best part is, it says right on your screen "Install a rom before you reboot"

I'll have to try that one next.

Bonsai has been extremely stable for me...both the Froyo and the new gingerbread EG22 versions. I have also had very good luck with Syndicate Frozen ROM.

You have to try a few different ROM's to see what works best for you.
