The VPN works on the 4a 5g (I have the 2GB Google One plan). Unfortunately, the VPN on the 7 Pro is still broken.

Try clearing Both data and cache from the Google 1 app. Then relaunch. That is what I had to do to get it working again.

VPN works fine for me on my 7P FWIW

Appreciate the screenshot above. My play store update was still the old one when the bug wouldn't allow it to update. Just rebooted and it has been updated to the January

Those trying to get the free Google VPN with their Pixel 7. You are in the states right? It's only available there.

Google VPN was not working for me until I allowed data share with my wife. As soon as I did that, the free VPN appeared.
